Sudanese politician and current President of Sudan and head of the National Congress Party Sudan, Omar al-Bashir has an estimated net worth of $1 billion. Born in January 1944 in Hosh Bannaga. Al-Bashir was a brigadier in the Sudanese army leading a group of officers in a military coup to overthrow Prime Minister Sadiq al-Mahdi back in 1989. He has been elected as President thrice even though the elections have been scrutinized for possible corruption. Al-Bashir, who also worked as a Field Marshall for Sudan, became the first sitting president indicted by the ICC for being director of a campaign of mass killing, rape, and pillaging against Darfur citizens in 2009 and was accused of genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity as well. From 1960 to 2013, he worked in the Sudanese and Egyptian armies. His government negotiated an end of the Second Sudanese Civil War in 2005. WikiLeaks pointed out that al-Bashir had embezzled state funds of $9 billion, with the money stashed in foreign bank accounts, while prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo told officials from the US government that hundreds of millions and potentially billions of dollars are sitting in London banks alone. However, the claims have been dismissed. His political career has been riddled with car and accusations of corruption.
