The Masjid is a male Arab club, there is no age diversity no women no minority representation. They meet once a month, approve each other’s ideas and they walk away. They don’t pay attention to the community as long as services are provided. The community is also silent they don’t realize that they have an option and that is basically what is happening.

Going to college was a mind blowing experience. I always went to Afghan mosques and never though we have connections with other Muslims. I thought we are totally different. I learnt about the Ummah from a college class.

Being very frank and very blunt when people come here they see Islam in the African American sometimes they don’t think that is a legitimate expression. They see African Americans with all of our behavior and social illness that we have. They look at the African American sometimes as not a legitimate Muslim. The social and political business of America makes it comfortable for us Muslims to be separated and not to get the real power of Islam which is in our unity via our diversity we are missing that and as a result we can never be the type of social and political influence that we could be because we still are looking at it through tribalistic eyes. This is the African American tribe, this is the Pakistani tribe the Egyptian tribe..etc
