Norwegian Government To Build Fula Hydro Power Plant
The Norwegian government is set to start the construction of a multimillion dollars Fula Rapids Hydroelectric Power Station Project to meet the high power demand in the city.

JUBA, 15 March 2013 [Gurtong]- Stein Paul Rosenberg, the counsellor of the Royal Norwegian Embassy in South Sudan has said that his government is working on a project to build the Fula hydro power plant in an effort to provide Juba and part of Nimule with power.
“This is regarding the Fula Rapid Hydro power project. This is one of the main projects for Norwegian cooperation to South Sudan. The projects is divided into several pieces one is to build hydro plant providing 40 mega watts at Fula rapids,” he said.
The power is expected to sort the demand for electricity in Juba as well as Nimule for the next decade.
He said the construction work is planned to start in October and is expected to finish early 2016 adding that the project is currently on tender.
The three year project is expected to cost over $160 million US dollars.
“With regard to investments, our support to the investment company Kinyeti Venture Capital should be mentioned. So far four projects have been approved and the pipeline of projects is a good step,” he announced.
The transmission line of about 150 kilometres from Fula to Juba will be connected according to Rosenberg adding that the distribution net shall be covered by South Sudan.
