Today, a Sudanese-Canadian activist representing the Beja Congress, Mr. Mohammed Hussein, visited the International Criminal Court and submitted a documented report (Communication under Rome Statute Article 15) on crimes against humanity allegedly committed in eastern Sudan in 2005. Mr. Hussein told the ICC that the Beja Congress, together with other Sudanese and international civic groups, is in the process of starting a global campaign aiming to expanding the UN Security Council Resolution 1593 (2005) that referred the grave crimes committed in Darfur (western Sudan) to the ICC, in order to cover all the Sudanese territories “to put an end to this discrimination against non-Darfuri Sudanese citizens who have been victims of mass crimes being committed by the Al Bashir regime since 2003 and up to date in other regions in Sudan”, quoting Mr. Hussein. Furthermore, these groups intend to launch a global petition for this purpose to be submitted to the UNSC. As Avaaz is a leading organisation in terms of global mobilization and web-based petitions, I thought that taking part in/leading this campaign could be of interest to you. Best regards, Diala
