Ladies and Gentlemen

Thank you for coming to celebrate the efforts and achievements of our brother , comrade and dear friend Nuraddin Mannan over the years. Comrade Mannan was Born in Wadi Halfa, Sudan in 1952.

His struggle against the Arab mentality of hegemony and policies of deculturalization and reculturalization of non-Arabs, began in his early childhood when he was denied the right to speak his language in almost all school levels.

As he grew up, he realized that it was not his sole language that was targeted but the whole Sudan Nubian and other African cultures were not acceptable to the consecutive Supremacists Arab regimes in Sudan. Nevertheless, instead of being a cause for discouragement, this supremacist trend of the governing Arab regimes, filled him with determination and resolve to know more about the Nubian culture and to struggle for the equal recognition of all Sudanese identities and cultures.

As result of his determination and resolve, the supremacist have no other choice but to contemplate his successful international career part of which in diplomacy as he held many diplomatic positions in India, Morocco, Chad and the United States of America and represented Sudan in many conferences around the world.

However, the forces of evil would not tolerate this tremendous success and see this determination cross the borders to bring back to his people and to Sudan promising future perspectives including new visions about civil, political, cultural and economic rights as well as a concept of development which is harmonious, just and durable. There is no place, as you know, in such a philosophy and vision for racism, discrimination or exclusion. Thus, he has been punished for his brave and courageous positions and the Al-Bashir regime subjected him to a compulsory early retirement.

It is said that the man who can drive himself further once the effort gets painful is the man who will win. This could not be truer than in the case of Brother Nuraddin. As a matter of fact, despite all the sabotage and the animosity directed against him, he has been the driving force behind the formation of some of the most omnipresent, powerful and enduring political movements.

Nuraddin participated in the formation of the first body of Sudan opposition movements in the United States, among others, Sudan Human Rights Organization, USA, The Sudanese Marginalized Forces Forum for Peace and development, Save Darfur Coalition, Rescue Nubia, Kush Heritage Foundation and Nubia project.

As an intellectual, he believed absolutely in the supreme power of ideas to transform societies in a revolutionary way when they become a social force in the minds of the mass of the population. Out of this conviction, he wrote extensively on Sudanese and Nubian issues and lectured in many universities, institutes, community centers and participated in seminars and international conferences on Nubia and other questions related to the destiny of Sudan.

Furthermore, Nuraddin can almost certainly be regarded as a ''true believer'' in human rights. He initiated many campaigns on human rights abuses and ethnic cleansing in Southern Sudan, genocide and ethnic cleansing in Darfur, Nuba Mountain and Blue Nile and damming Nubia and destroying its heritage and introduced these issues to US Congress and media.

Equally, he is an expert in Middle East, African and international affairs and accredited Arabic and Nubian linguist and a poet who authored and published his poems in Arabic and Nubian languages and the first Nobiin (Nubian) language book for English speakers.

I’m proud to say that he was and still is a strong voice in the struggle for justice for the marginalized Sudanese and a true representative of the outcry of all the regions in Sudan.

Brother Nuraddin, because of your efforts we are able to see the mountain tops and definitely you and us will get there soon and celebrate in the streets of Khartoum.

For our friends and fellow countrymen, thank you very..Very much for coming, for your valuable support, for recognizing, honoring, and celebrating the achievements of Brother Nuraddin Mannan.

Finally, I would like to thank Mme. Asmaa Abdelhafizz, for standing beside him throughout his life, career and struggle. Our thanks go also to daughters Mayada, Maali and Malaaz.
