Government of South Sudan Sposered Abductions and Assassintions in South Kordofan posted Monday January 30th, 2012 Since the outbreak of violence in South Kordofan State in June, 2011, as a result of the Sudan People‟s Liberation Movement-North‟s (SPLM-N) refusal to accept the results of the state‟s elections, which was done in the presence of international observers, a series of human rights abuses have occurred by the SPLM-N with support of the Government of South Sudan (GoSS). The Government of Sudan (GoS) would like to bring international attention to these abuses that include the abduction of Sudanese citizens including the forced conscription of children to be used as child soldiers and trained on South Sudanese soil, and targeted assassinations. The Sudanese People Liberation Army (SPLA), the military wing of the GoSS, has a long history of practicing such human rights violations as observed by several United Nations (UN) agencies.Findings of the Sudanese National Council for Child Welfare. A total of 900 children were forced into training camps between July, 2011 and October, 2011, in addition to nearly 1000 children who were individually forced into camps run by the SPLA in Faryang, South Sudan. -On 17/7/2011, 175 children from Al-Kuwaleeb, South Kordofan State, Sudan, were forcibly relocated to Faryang, Unity State, South Sudan. -On 14/10/2011, 350 children from Heiban and Moro in South Kordofan State, Sudan, were forcibly located to Faryang, Unity State, South Sudan. -On 14/10/2011, 75 children from the area of Salara, South Kordofan, Sudan, were moved to Faryang, Unity State, South Sudan. -On 15/10/2011, 300 children were moved from the area of Al-Baram. A letter by the Sudanese National Council of Child Welfare with the above information was submitted to the office of the United Nations Children‟s Fund (UNICEF) on 5/1/2012. Investigations Interviews with local citizens in South Kordofan State have revealed stories of abductions, violence, murder and targeted assassinations by members of SPLM-N against Sudanese citizens. -Tia Mousa Kuwa, from Shat Al-Safia: -”They (SPLM-N) took 39 members of our family to the South, to a place called Eta”. - “They did not treat citizens well and took their cattle”. - “Those between ages 12-16 were forcefully conscripted.” -”They call us Nuba Arabs, because we used to live in the north”. - “We did not see airplanes bombings”. -”Our children are in the South, taken by the SPLM”. -Ahmad Kuku Tia Bajun, from Shat Al-Damam: -”I am the village chief”. -”Someone from the SPLM came to warn me and said „you are a good person, I don‟t want anything to happen to you, you should leave the place‟”. -”I left the house, and two armed men came in looking for me, they spoke to my wife and children”. -”I then went to a nearby village and the chief told me I should stay”. -”The next day, I found they burned my house and took my family to Bahar Abyad”. -”They took boys ages 12 to be forcibly conscripted”. -Woman witness, from Shat Al-Damam: -”They (SPLM-N) took away women and children”. -”They (SPLM-N) killed my husband and brother”. - Tia Kuku Jaras, from Shat Al-Safia: -”They called us Nuba Arabs, we did not know what they meant, but later we understood”. -”They took my children, nephews and nieces, 22 of them to Bahar Abyad”. -”They killed 6 persons who were Muslim in Shat Al-Safia”. -”Somebody called Abdullah from the SPLM-N took our cattle”. -”They took children from ages 12-16 to Eta in South Sudan”. -”We did not see airplane bombings”. -”People are suffering”. -”A woman came to us and said 75 children in the camps died of hunger”. -Man witness from Kufa village, west of Kadugli - “Village leader Khalil Musa in the area of Harazaya was killed by SPLM-N men”. -”Village leader Hammad Haj of Keiga Al-Khail was taken while working in his farm”. -”Many children were taken to Faryang in South Sudan, many we know died”. -”I think many citizens have lost trust in the SPLM, and many of their members now are leaving them especially after the death of Khalil Ibrahim from the Justice and Equality Movement, their spirits are low”. The Case of Telephone Kuku Telephone Kuku, a popular SPLM-N leader from South Kordofan, was illegally arrested by the SPLA in Juba, South Sudan, in March, 2009, where he has been ever since against his will. He was arrested after objecting to how the SPLA treated the issue of South Kordofan and Nuba soldiers in the SPLA. He was a contender in the South Kordofan State elections in April, 2011. On 4/1/2012, the family of Telephone Kuku delivered a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) requesting the GoS to intervene and seek his release as a Sudanese citizen from the authorities of GoSS. Targeted Assassinations The SPLM-N s is responsible for the targeted assassinations of at least 25 persons in South Kordofan. These include: -Kabi Kuku Ghazal, a native administration leader, killed at his house in Kadugli on 18/6/2012. -Babu Hasabu killed on his farm in El Deleng on 25/9/2011. -Tutu Kafi Nasr, killed in the southern areas of Kadugli, 8/10/2011. -Karkon Kuku, a village chief a native administration leader, killed on 14/10/2011. -Mahmud Tutu, a personal guard of tribal leader Kafi Tiyara, killed on 9/9/2011. -Al-Nur Kannu, a personal guard of tribal leader Kafi Tiyara, killed on 16/9/2011. -Abdullah Al-Nour killed in the area of Anfargo, south of El Deleng. -Ahmad Muhammad Saad killed in the town of Dalami. -Hassan Ibrahim Kajo killed in the Ambarmabayta District. -Gismalla Ahmed Abdelmajeed killed in the Ambarmabayta District. -Abdullah Kuku Gamer killed in the Dalami District. -Muhammad Adam Makeen, killed in the Dalami District -Al-Nour Muhammad Abdullah, killed in the Khor Al-Dilayb. -Gumaa Gadalla Abdullah killed in the Dalami District. -Naji Rizgallah Komi killed in the Dalami District. -Haidar Abdullah Koko killed in the Dalami District. -Ismail Tafri, a local activist, killed in Kadugli. -Al-Nour Odera Sheira, a youth activist, killed in the Salara area. -Kuku Kamsari, a local activist, killed in the Salara area. -Abdelgadir Abdelsalam, imam of Al-Natal Mosque, killed west of El Deleng. -Al-Faki Soleiman, local activist, killed in the Talodi District. -Adam Al-Mamun Ahmad, local activist, killed in the Taoldi District. -Merghani Kuku, imam of Al-Ihaymar Mosque, south Kadugli, killed on 14/9/2011. -Bakri Osman Ahmed, imam of Tarjuji Mosque, south west Kadugli, killed on 3/9/2011. -Mahmoud Daldom, village chief of Kayga, north of Kadugli, killed on 5/10/2011. Given the above list of human rights violations by the SPLM-N with support of the Government of South Sudan, the Government of Sudan seeks to bring international attention to these violations and pursue the necessary measures via international law to remedy the above cases.
