    Slater Armstrong

Slater Armstrong is founder and director of Joining Our Voices Enterprises. He is a worship leader, a missionary, a songwriter, musician and recording artist who has spent the last 14 years of his life laboring to create a means of broadcasting the “voice” of the Christians in Sudan through their own indigenous songs. His call to this work came in 1997 after hearing first hand testimony from the late Rev. Mark Nikkel, missionary to Sudan, and his two companions, The Rt. Rev. Nathaniel Garang, Sudanese Episcopal Bishop of Bor Diocese, and the Rev. Bartholomeyo Bol Deng, a song leader of the now infamous “Lost Boys” of Sudan
Slater’s first trip to Sudan was along the southern border with Uganda in 1999. He arranged and paid for cartage of all necessary recording equipment to be brought with him to Uganda and Sudan. These recordings culminated in his first project, Even In Sorrow, which blends their music with the sounds of American and Celtic musicians, and carries the words of their choirs translated into English verse
Since 2003, Slater has returned to Sudan four times with an emphasis on the Christians in the Nuba Mountains, hosted by Bishop Andudu in the Diocese of Kadugli. Two of these trips were for recording audio and video, and two trips were with development organizations. He has been involved with the Sudan advocacy network in America throughout this time, participating in rallies, walks, conferences and other events. Currently, he is working to finish two music projects and a documentary on the historical and Biblical significance of the people of Kush, with special emphasis on the Nuba tribes and people groups.
