Dear Ahmed, and friends
Allow me first to say that I condemn the killing of Mohamed Mekki, or Mekki Alnaas as people used to refer to him. I like to thank you for opening this important post, but I am not sure of your story about the assasination of Mekki Alnaas, you need to provide more evidence, and documents to support your claim. I remembered that the right wing newspapers of Lebanon in 1970 like Alhayyat, and Alnihar were accusing the leftist Palestinian organization, the Popular Front, the General Command led by Ahmed Jabril, and the Syrian Intelligence of the abduction, and killing of Mekki Alnaas. I personally think Mekki Alnaas didn't pose any threat to May regime. He wasn't also a prominent opponent of that regime. It was well known in the political Sudanese circles of 1960s, the hostility between Alshareef Hussein Alhindi, the defacto leader of the armed Sudanese opposion to May regime in 1970s, and Mekki Alnaas. Itis illogical that Alshareef Alhindi would work with a person that he despised like Mohamed Mekki in opposing May regime. Although I was in the middle school in the second half of 1960s, but like many of my generation, I wast higly politicised, and used to read all the newspapers, including Alnaas during the second democratic period. Mekki Alnaas wasn't a proponent of liberal democracy in Sudan, Africa, or the Arab World. I still remember his anti- Eritrean revolution crusade, his stories about personal scandals of Unioinist politicians and others,his strong support of the failed attempt to establish an Islamic Military Pact, and his strong support of anti- democratic laws which banned SCP, and kicked the elected Communist members out of the parliament. Mohamed Mekki was a dwarf journalist,in days of giant journalists, like Bashir Mohamed Saeed, Mohamed Ahmed Omer, Hassan Altahir Zaroug, Mahgoub Mohamed Salih, and Awad Berir. He was a hired gun
