Mr Bashasha, Happy new year, Thank you for passing by , it was really nice of you. I agree with your approach that different people receieve different greetings . You have all th right to express your thoughts , however , over doing anything degrades it . What I am trying to tell you is that I have lived with Arabs , and I was treated differently because of my skin color or nationality , however not EVERYONE was racist , therfore , when those few kind and respectful people state that they admire Sudanese culture , traditions , poetry and our persona in general , we shal not treat them like the racist group . We shall welcome them and make them feel like home .The lebanese journalist is one of the people who doesn't think of Sudanese people as inferior to her people .Otherwise she wouldn't spend any time in this board.I agree with you , we do have an identity conflict , a lot of us feel that we have a dual identity , Arabs and Africans. We are the only Afro Arabs . Our situation is one that is unique ,we look African but we speak Arabic and some consider themselves Arab as well , while other parts of Sudan don't even speak Arabic. I believe identity should be optional . I for example I consider myself African and not Arab my family have a different view but they didn't deprive me from the right to chose my identity, therefore I shouldn't deprive others from the same freedom . I see myself as such . Another Sudanese person believe they are Arab , e.g my relatives. Someone else may chose to identify themselves as Coptic , Muslim , Man or Woman . One can chose their religion , gender , race , Tribe etc as there identityor simply believe they are Sudanese and neglect any other factor. We shall grant people their freedom of choice in terms of their identity , because we demand the same freedom. In addition, I agree with you that , some people don't simply chose and identity but they think of the rest identities as inferior, Which leads and have lead to civil war and genocide. Toronto is number one multi-cultural city in the world . People of different races , Jews , Muslims , Christians , Hindus ,Ethiopeans , Eritreans , Somalians etc live peacfully together . They work at the same place , they celebrate eachother's festivals , e.g Asian , African , Eurpean celebrations. In the same time they celebrate Canada Day . . Everyone is free to chose their personal religion , and identity without fearing persecution .Why is it so hard for us to be like that? Why can't we chost our identity respect eachother and still love Sudan? questions remain unanswered!
All I am trying to say we shall not be insecure and think every Arab is racist , and let our attitude be full of hatred and bitterness, which would only push away people from our beautiful culture and country.
I respect you opinion Mr Bashaha , I hope you reveal the bright and positive side of it as well, with respect, Rawan
