The President of the United States of America
We, proponents of democracy and human rights in Sudan, are baffled, frustrated and disenchanted by the stand your country is taking in respect to the recent political developments in our country, Sudan. Your envoy General Scott Gration is actively operating in Sudan’s political arena, supporting the holding of the election in the manner and time dictated by the current regime in Sudan. In doing so, your envoy has effectively lent your country’s total support to the policy and ill tacts of the murderous regime of Khartoum and its indicted head of state.
The regime in Khartoum has designed, timed, and is executing the declared elections for the purpose of attaining the legitimacy that eluded it since its inception. In doing so, the regime has successfully frustrated all efforts to correct its structures of dictatorship. It refuses to cancel its packages of anti liberty anti human rights laws and has currently deployed the entire state machinery including media outlets, army and security apparatus to the service of its electioneering purposes, rendering to whole political atmosphere non-conducive to free and fair elections.
The regime in Khartoum must answer to the mascaras, violation of human rights, torture, rape and the destruction that occurred during its rule of the country in Darfur and all over the country. It must not be allowed to use elections as a tool for impunity.
Inconsistent with your country’s declared stand on liberty and human rights, your envoy has recently been working vigorously in support of the regime. By doing so, he is undermining the Sudanese people quest for democracy rule of law, and unity.
We demand the withdrawal of your envoy Scott Gration with immediate effect.
We demand clear stand on the human rights of the Sudanese people and the conduct of the regime in this regard.
We demand a clear stand of your country on the integrity of our country and the peaceful choice of the Sudanese people as to the destiny of the country.
