SHRO-Cairo Condemns NCP Attack on Darfuri Students
The Sudan’s ruling National Congress Party (NCP) students’ supportive bodies continue to spread chaos and lawlessness in Sudanese universities in full collaboration with the Sudan Police and the National Security & Intelligence Service (NS&IS), as occurred in the Ahliya, Gezira, and other universities recently.
Most recently on June 4, a student supporting the NCP brutalized with a pistol ‘Isma’il Ahmed Salih, member of the Darfur Students’ League, at the University of Khartoum, causing grievous hurt to his head and hands.
The next day, the League condemned the attack in a peaceful assembly when a group of NCP students armed with iron rods, Molotov, and firearms attacked the audience in the main entrance inside the university. At the time of attack, a joint force of police and the NS&IS arrested arbitrarily a large number of the League, including secretary general Mohamed Daoud Musa and secretary of social affairs Ahmed Daoud Musa.
Using iron rods and firearms, the NCP students, police and NS&IS forces exercised unprecedented hunting campaign against the Darfuri students who escaped the massacre at the Kassala and Rahad dorms in campus.
The injured students deeply hurt by this lawless attack inside the university campus and dorms included:
Adam ‘Abd al-Rahman a-Doma Malik ‘Abd-Allah Suliman Al-Fatih Ahmed Mohamed Ahmed Hasab-Allah Salim ‘Abd al-NAsir Mahmoud Jofoun Ibrahim Salih Ibrahim Al-Nour Hussain ‘Abd-Allah Adam Bagadi Hassab-Allah Ahmed Ibrahim Idris Khalid Adam SAlih ‘Abd al-Kareem Ahmed Yagoub Abubakr Hassan Adam Hussain Mustafa Mohamed Mango Khidir Mohamed Khidir
Still at the Khartoum Hospital, students Haroun, Swar a-Dahab Mohamed Jum’a, and Mohamed ‘Eissa are placed in serious medical conditions.
The Police Force is required by law to respect the right of citizens to peaceful assembly and the freedom of expression. The NS&IS is constitutionally committed to collect information on Sudan security affairs with no authority, whatever, to use or abuse firearms or any other tools of terror against citizens.
SHRO-Cairo condemns in the strongest terms possible the chaotic, lawless actions and attitudes of the police and other law-enforcement agencies against Darfuri students.
The Organization calls strongly on the National Council (Assembly) to investigate urgently this brutal attack on students at the University of Khartoum.
We hold the National Congress and all assaulting students legally responsible for these heinous attacks and casualties.
We equally hold the Police and NS&IS fully responsible before the law for this shameless racism against the Darfuri students in university.
