I think what happened on this board yesterday was one of the sadest things ever ..i have been really surprised with the scale of the atrocity towards someone who was merely expressing her openion on a certain issue !!
I have been reading what Dr Mihaira was writing on this board about El Fikra of Ustaz Mahmoud .. I could not find a word which should have caused all that atrocity against her !!
the most frustrating of all is that the people who caused all this row are the same very people who define themselves as deffenders of Democracy ...!! isn`t it the same classic sudanese undemocratic personality which emerges everytime pulling its old weapons whenever there is someone oppsing its own openion ??
I need no one to tell me how democratic Ustaz Mousaley is , and how he has been sacrifying for the real right of our nation in a decent and humane life . But , how can I understand him not tolerating a sudanese woman mentioning facts containing word like LESBIANS and HOMOSEXUALS !! how could we be reading `The Season of Migration to the North ` to Ustaz Eltayb Salih or novel witten by some like the algerian writer , Ustaz Waseeni El a3rag , without getting offended ?? don`t these great novels continuously imply sexually ? and in fact , don`t they directly describe so obvious sexual scenes ??
But , hasn`t the sudanese dictator government stopped Eltayb Salih`s books , depriving our people from enjoying them ,just because they think these books contain sexual scenes ??
If it is any thing , I think it is our personality which continuously refuses to learn the great lesson from the history , be it recent or past .
I think Ustaz Mousaley has made a mistake by asking Dr Mihaira to stick to , what he called ,`sudanese girls`morality `..
Being a man fighting for real democratic life for our people , regardless of coulor , s..x, ethnic origin or religion and knowing that Ustaz Mousaley shares me the same values , I think we should be very careful about our wording and not let the anger to lead us away from what we really think right ...other wise , such comments will mean that we agree with the suppression of women in our society , which exactly what the government and their party is doing right now . And will , more over, mean that we are not serious about our call for equality .
Ustaz Mousaley ,I`m not here to advise you ...but i`m trying to remind myself the great values of our cause , just because I consider myself a member of the democratic tribe on this board and anywhere .
I mainly spoke about Ustaz mousaley because he was the one who fired Mihaira`s issue , but i`m here speaking generally about ourselves as sudanese people who still have a long way to go towards the democracy and tolerance to others however defferent they are from us .
I`m happy that Ustaz Mousaley and all others are now calling to come back , and I thank Ustaz Bakry to be that wise , as usual, to control this issue . In the same time , I`m calling for Dr Mihaira to come back because we need her contributions and ready to defend her right for expression , even if we do not agree with the way she cotes sentences selectively from Ustaz Mahmoud`s Fikra to support her wrong results . it is what I believe in and call it democracy and what Mahmoud died for saying ` democracy for us and others`.
In the end I would like to cote this from Dr Christiane Northrup:
