As every Sudanese political party, SCP has its ups and downs, good and bad. Positive criticism should always and equally point to the dark and bright sides of a thing being criticized. No one doubt the positive input SCP has played in our political life. However, the failure of the party to stick to democracy ( early times of Nimeri) and its blind association with USSR, made the party unfit to rule Sudan. Generally communism has shown its failure in all the countries adopted it. Saying that doesn't necessarily mean there are no positive side in SCP political programs. Sudan is in desperate need to a left wing to balance the political arena which dominated by the right religiously based parties. The failure of SCP to become popular and hence more effective in Sudan's political life may be due to the fact that the name of the party implies rejection of religion. Despite the fact that the word socialism is most acceptable among Sudanese, the word communism isn't.
The SCP defined a Sudanese citizen as being " The poor Mohammed Ahmed". In my opinion this contradicts their stand today. The definition simply means Sudan is an Arab muslim country.
