Khartoum-The IGAD is to hold emergency summit in Juba, South Sudan next Thursday, and to be precede by a ministerial meeting at the foreign ministers level to discuss the crisis of South Sudan and continuity of the fighting. According to press sources, the delegation of the IGAD arrived in Juba on Sunday to arrange a direct meeting between President Salva Kiir and the political detainees in connection to the alleged military coup attempt. The accused detainees include Pagan Amum, the former SPLM Secretary General, the leading SPLM member Deng Alor and the ex Finance Minister Kosti Manibi. The sources said that the representative of the Ethiopian mediation Seyom Mesfen has made preliminary contacts to hold a direct contact between Salva Kirr and the detainees that could lead to the release of the detainees or agree on their stay under the IGAD patronage. The sources expected that the parties would reach an agreement on the detainees paving the way before a draft law on cessation of hostilities as proposed by the IGAD, and then enter direct talks. The sources referred to differences over some paragraphs of the draft proposal, especially with “foreign forces” paragraph, and the safe corridors.
