In a memo written to American citizens in South Sudan, US Embassy regrets that South Sudan government has officially announced that it is sponsoring a demonstration against the IGAD-proposed and AU-endorsed increase of UNMISS troops in the country and therefore citizens must avoid public places.

July 19, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —– South Sudan’s Salva Kiir government has ordered civilians to march to the streets to protest foreign force intervention in the country. The protest, however, could subside down as more fighting resumes at the outskirts of Juba between the two rival forces.

According to reliable sources, the protesters will march on the streets to denounce foreign intervention which was proposed by IGAD and supported by the African Union, the United Nations, SPLM/SPLA-IO and other political parties.

In a memo written to American citizens in South Sudan, US Embassy regrets that South Sudan government has officially announced that it is sponsoring a demonstration against the IGAD-proposed and AU-endorsed increase of UNMISS troops in the country and therefore citizens must avoid public places.

“Message to American Citizens — The government of South Sudan has announced that it is sponsoring a demonstration against the IGAD-proposed and AU-endorsed increase of UNMISS troops to Juba.” Parts of the memo reads.

“The protest is scheduled to take place in Juba on Wednesday morning, July 20, beginning at SPLM House and moving to the John Garang Memorial. U.S.” the memo continued.

“Citizens are advised to avoid the areas in which the demonstration will take place. Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence.” the statement concludes.

According to Mading Ngor, a journalist who protested in Jieng Emmanuel Church for allowing Dr. Machar to speak, supporters and sympathizers must come out to support the “civil society organization”.

“If you’re in Juba and love your country, come out and support the civil society organizations rally tomorrow (Wednesday) in front of Dr. John Garang Mausoleum.” Mading Ngor, journalist

According to eye witnesses similar demonstration was conducted today in Bor town, the capital of Jonglei state.

“A peaceful demonstration has been held in Jonglei state this morning. The citizens of Jonglei state jam in the street today rejecting more foreign troops intervention in South Sudan.” Ayom Ruei Ayom said.

This type of demonstration in South Sudan is very rare, unless organized by the government.

Reacting on social media, many commentators urge Kiir’s supporters not to protest against foreign intervention but for food, clean drinking water, health care and better roads in the country.

“If the citizens of South Sudan can’t come out to demonstrate against their government for lack of basic needs such as food, cleaning drinking water, primary Healthcare, education etc…. and man-made economic hardship, why would you think they would come out to demonstrate against UNMISS that had been providing security and refuge to tens of thousands of South Sudanese running for the lives from their own government؟؟؟” Agel Machar, former national youth chairman and a leading member of SPLM/SPLA-IO said.

“Seeing people at Bor, a town that leased foreign troops from Uganda for protection for good two years, demonstrating against foreign intervention while they bankrupted South Sudan by giving all the money to Ugandan troops and Darfur rebels in exchange for protection, is not only a sign of mass incompetency to our not so distance cousins Jieng, but may also gives the civilize world a reason to robs us of our hard-won independence.” Goihoa Biliu echoed.
