SUDAN’S WOMEN DOCTORS IN ‘NINJA MASKS’: PRACTICING MEDICINE

Dear Professor Awad Mohamed Ahmed
Thank you for raising "women issues" as an area for discussion, while reading your essay "research paper", tremendous of questions , exclamation marks and enquiries came to my mind. I was wondering which to start with? is it the topic title?, way of explaining women and/or patient attitudes and or my views on style of writing specifically using the masculinity language “his” instead of “her”.

Finally I tried to sum them in points:
“there is an increasing interest on discussing the role of religion (and spirituality) in the - - medical care on health and disease”.
 Does it play a role on the significance of the faithful and internal will of the patient to recover or only the dress of his/her doctor plays this role? I do believe that, yes the religion plays a major role on the sense that it pushes the people inner potentials towards living their lives, and help them to recover quicker than if they are not believers. The dressing style might not play the major role here, it is a believe, not a research findings.
“In this regard one can advocate policies forbidding women doctors from wearing the headscarf (niqab)”…… “So they should dress in a way that inspires confidence of his patients”.
 This is a personal issue and not a base for determining women medical doctor performance, rather women whoever can wear what ever according to her believe and degree of commitment to the rules set by their religion, state and/or the community.
“It is easier to change a doctor’s dress style than, for example, than to change his bedside manners”
 I prefer to use His/Her, instead of his. Since the doctor might be a female and/or a male.
“The niqab wearer (doctors and students), as well, can be a subject of investigation in regard to issues such as academic and professional difficulties facing them, and their relations with senior and junior colleagues. “
 Again I do not believe this should be an area of a research (investigation) rather, we should advocate performance level judge rather than appearance level rule.
 Another point: are such investigations restricted to medical Doctors Nigab wearer only or to be generalized to all community member and professionals. This point raises the first argument on the performance level rules rather than appearance level rules in any field.

As a conclusion I “believe” women appearance, any where, must not be an issue to measure their successes, rather I advocate women to focus on their achievements only.
