Dear Mathew Faris Thank you for passing Dr. Garang's statement to us. As a Sudanese of no affiliation at this time, I am just hoping that the SPLM/A would take any allegations of human rights abuse as well of allegations of racial alienation of certain groups within the movement seriously. Condemning dissidents and refusing to confront and empathize with genuine complaints and grievences should hurt the SPLM in the long-run. As someone who had once believed in the legitmacy of what the movement had stood for, I find myself obligated to voice my concern over the blanket denial the SPLM is hiding behind whenever it is confronted by such allegations and employing statements that are no different than the ones used by the oppressive regime in Kharoum; a tactic that has long been used by dogmatic and undemocratic regimes, and I think has become bankrupt especially now when people have become more aware of their rights and have access to the worldwide media. Human rights watch circulars-once afforded only for the elites- have become accessible to anyone with a computer, and are more frequently cauted in local Newspapers, not to mention the availability of Sattelite channel for increasing numbers of people, so the public now is not as disinformed as before and can find any piece of information when they want it.
