thanks Dr.Elnour .. and i really hope one day to see a "huge" book about the life of the teacher Mahmoud Mohamed Taha .. certainly, it would be a rich, colorful, and exciting historical document
dear Omdurmani .. what i know about the roots of the word (Sufi) as it is in the history of Islam is that it wasn't used before that time to refer to that practice .. as a matter of fact .. Tasawuf is a later name to an earlier practice (as said by the Teacher Mahomoud Taha).. meaning is that the practice of Tasawuf in Islam has started before the name came to existence .. because Tasawuf in its origin is the immitation of the prophet Mohamed (peace be upon him) .. and the Sufis consider the practice of the prophet before the revelation as a part of his path .. this is why they used to isolate themselves in caves and other places immitating the prophet when he used to isolate himself to medicate in (ghar Thour) one month each year..
however, there is a similar name to the name of (Sufi) which was used in ancient greek .. this name was the (Sophist) ,, this name used to call the teachers of Athens who used to teach the youth of Athens the arts of science, philosophy, and even social manners .. Socrates himself was one of these (Sophists) .. but he did not take money from the fathers of his pupils.. this is why he was a terrible provider for his family .. this was one of the things that have distinguished Socrates from the rest of the sophists of his time
