Re: سافر إلى جوبا سعادة السفير D .Akec Khoc (Re: Tragie Mustafa)

Bio Akec Khoc Aciew The current Ambassador of South Sudan in the United States, Akec Khoc Aciew, was born in Bor County Jangelei State, in South Sudan on January 1st 1956. He began early education at Malek Elementary School in Bor in 1960. He then went on to study at Atar Intermediate School in 1960, but due to the constant political instability, his education was interrupted from 1964 through 1966. It was until 1966 when he was finally able to resume his education at Juba Intermediate School and continued to do so upon enrollment at Rumbek Secondary School in Omdurman, Khartoum in 1969. His education was interrupted once again, although this time was it was only momentarily, when in 1972, his school was relocated back to South Sudan. Upon relocation, Ambassador AkecKhocAciew was among the first students to graduate from the newly established institution. He continued his higher education by attending the University of Khartoum from 1973 to 1979. Upon graduating, Akec began interning at different hospitals all through 1980, and before the end of the year, he was able to move back to Juba in the South in order to become a practitioner at Juba Teaching Hospital. He continued to grow in the medical field and therefore was transferred to the Primary Health Care Department in the Ministry of Health in Southern Sudan in 1982. It was there where he took on the responsibility of becoming in charge of training community health workers, nurses, and midwives. His outstanding work as a medical practitioner was recognized when he was nominated to go to France in 1983, where he would specialize in Pediatrics and Medical Statistics. However, due to the political conflict that broke out in Sudan while he was in France, and the need for physicians during this hard time, Akec felt it was his duty to go back to his homeland and aid those in need. His efforts to aid the community proved to be successful within a year when Akec and his colleagues were finally able to not only change the conditions in the refugee camps, but provide aid for those in neighboring regions. By 1985, more medical officers became available to run the medical center, allowing Ambassador Akec to attend to the incoming refugees from South Sudan towards the Ethiopian borders and provide them with basic medical services. In an effort to become politically involved in the matter, Akec joined the Sudan People’s Liberation Army in 1986. Soon after joining the movement, he was appointed the director of the SPLA Medical Corps. He moved away from the refugee camps and into the frontlines of the conflict where he treated wounded soldiers as well as the wounded IDPS, and surrounding communities that lacked proper medical supplies. From 1989 to 1990, he remained active in political efforts through his involvement in the Sudan Rehabilitation and Relief Agency (SRRA) as a regional coordinator of the Northern Upper Nile located in Nasir. His medical experiences allowed him to continue to work closely with the SPLA by treating wounded soldiers as well as helping them receive specialized treatment by evacuating them to more equipped hospitals. He also helped organize availability of medical facilities for soldiers, IDPS, and surrounding communities. From 1991 through 2003, he wasdispatched to France as the representative of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) where he canvassed humanitarian and political awareness and support, as well as international assistance. Throughout his position as representative, and in order to help maintain himself, as well as the movement, he trained and worked as a clinical hematologist. In 2004, Ambassador Akec continued his medical training in Minnesota, USA, where he began focusing on his specialty. This path was interrupted in 2006 when he was recalled as part of the Powers-sharing arrangements in the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) and began his international career as he was appointed an Ambassador in the Government of National Unity (GONU). His international relations career continued as he was posted to the United Nations Permanent Mission for Sudan as the deputy Permanent Representative in 2007. His service was recognized when he was appointed Charge D' Affaires of the Republic of Sudan in Washington, D.C. from 2008 to 2010. Ambassador Akec continued to work towards the South Sudanese cause and proceeded to Khartoum, Sudan and then Juba, South Sudan where participated in the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of South Sudan July 9, 2011. Him and his colleagues were then tasked with the transformation of the Ministry of Regional Cooperation Government of Southern Sudan as well as the Integration of the staff from both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs GONU and the International Cooperation GONU into the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of South Sudan Due to his remarkable background in international affairs, and upon the establishment of the Embassy of the Republic of South Sudan in the United States,Ambassador Akec was appointed as the first ambassador, making history in May 2012. Ambassador Akec thanks the President of the Republic of South Sudan, General SalvaKiirMayardit, and Hon.Nhial Deng Nhial, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, as well as the entire leadership of the Ministry of Foreign affairs and International Cooperation and other national actors for the confidence they have entrusted in him to represent South Sudan in the United States of America. In this capacity he and the Embassy staff hope to enhance the bilateral diplomatic relations between the Republic of South Sudan and the United States of America strategic cooperation levels, attract US investment, cultural exchange and technology transfer from the US to South Sudan.
