What the author gets wrong is the question of motive. The origins of the conflict in the Nuba mountains are complex as are the motivations of different rebel factions. The motivations of the Bashir government aren't. To conflate the two is quite bizare. Bashir is running a fundamentalist Islamic regime that since 1989 has attempted to effectively colonize the complex multi-cultural societies living within the borders of Sudan. To do this it has had to murder and commit brutal acts of genocide. Bravo Mr Clooney - this not the same as that douche who made Kony 2012. This is bringing attention to the fact that we have embassies and diplomatic relations with genocidal neo-colonialist regime. Situations in Africa are complex, some people are however downright horrifying please don't forget that. I am appalled that as a Taxpayer I indirectly fun the armed police outside the Sudanese embassy in Mayfair. Bashir's Sudan is just behind North Korea n the awfulness stakes and vies with Rajapaska's Sri Lanka for the most appalling government the UK continues to have diplomatic relations with.
