Police are investigating a possible link between eight bodies found recently on a New York beach and the 2006 murders of four prostitutes in Atlantic City, N.J., the New York Post reports. The Post report cited new information that one of the victims killed in 2006 by a suspected Atlantic City serial killer spent five weeks with her husband. Police plan to continue their search and investigation on Wednesday to discover the remains of more victims of the Long Island serial killer. Police uncovered the remains of three more women, whose bodies will be placed in the medical examiner's office, until their identities will be unveiled. [1] A massive law enforcement hunt is now underway, with investigators undertaking the daunting task of searching the huge expanse of thicket surrounding the area where the bodies were found. This all started late last year when police conducted a search for a missing New Jersey woman believed to be a Craigslist escort and stumbled upon 4 other bodies, now identified as women who also worked as Craigslist prostitutes. Subsequently, 4 other bodies were found in and around the same Long Island beach but the missing NJ woman, 24 year old Shannon Gilbert, was not one of them. Some of these women have been missing as far back as 2007 and their high risk activities may have contributed to the slow response of searching for them. Now Long Island residents are understandably very nervous and fear a serial killer might be lurking among them. Police are reportedly undertaking a meticulous search, going through the victims credit card receipts and phone records to determine who they might have spoken to or interacted with in the area. They are even looking at possible traffic tickets to see if they can pinpoint the women's travel routes. One Long Island resident was seen on television recounting and incident where a woman had run screaming to his house asking for help but that she ran off before he could help her. He said he felt responsible because he probably could have saved her. [1] Numerous people with possible links to the four slain women who have been identified have come to the attention of police since the investigation began, the officials said. Police are also looking at people who have had regular or routine access to the beach where the bodies were found, and Investigators are also exploring possible links to the serial killer who murdered prostitutes in New Jersey, they said. According to one investigator familiar with the case and the behavior of serial killers, this appears to be an organized serial killer who plans methodically and is probably above average intelligence. The killer usually lures people, then kills them in one place and disposes of the body in another. This sort of killer is often social -- not a loner -- with family, friends and what would appear to be a normal life, the investigator said. It was the disappearance of a prostitute that led New York police to stumble on the serial killer's ocean-front dumping ground in western Suffolk County. [2] Investigators are also exploring possible links to the serial killer who murdered prostitutes in New Jersey, officials have said. One investigator familiar with the case and the behavior of serial killers believes the serial killer is organized and methodical about his procedures, probably above average intelligence. He said it appears the killer usually lures people, kills them in one place and then disposes the body in another, ABC News reports. This killer is often social, according to the investigator, and would appear to have a normal life with family and friends as opposed to being a loner. The disappearance of 24-year-old N.J. resident and Craigslist escort Shannan Gilbert led investigators to the Suffolk County beach spot late last year where they found four skeletal bodies of female prostitutes.
