Im writing this because i have nothing else to occupy my time with, since i decided to stop watching featured movies which was my number one hobby. Why did u stop asks my husband who fears my endless hours of spare time would be filled by annoying him, well.... i guess im fed up with the image, message and ideology Hollywood has and portraits of women and on the other hand necessarily of men, ofcourse i could start with oldies (black and white) where every women would end up married to the perfect hero, her existence in the movie is only justifiable through the love she provides to the hero who's story the movie processes.
I Squeeze my memory trying to recall when was the last time i saw a movie about the life of a woman (real women ) and by that i don't mean Nichole kidman or Maddona looking killingly fabulous in high heels and a dress designed by (who ever is being payed the highest price these days to stitch to pieces of cloth together), fighting creatures that don't exist or better yet play the role of a beautiful young women struggling in a relation ship, usually ending with the romanticized idea of marriage were she will go on to live happily ever after as long as her knight is by her side.
Although women today make more that half the population of the world , 90% of them living under poverty in war torn areas, still film makers, book writers and the media insist on portraying the same image of women, never good enough to rise and play the leading role of their tormented lives, i sit here and try to imagine how many stories worth telling, stories that will help masses of other women stand up, overcome their shyness and say out loud 'NO' .
I like to believe its a vicious circle that every male has contributed to its cycle on any women he knows starting with Freud and his 6 stages or were they 8, of human development ? irrelevant since women seem to reach only early stages and fail to reach the higher stages most males do unless they were criminals and mass murders, which is realizing human rights ( the last stage ) quite strange since i haven't heard of a woman starting a war.
The motion picture i was watching which started this wave of feminism inside of me is called MY SUPER EX-GIRLFRIEND ,any one who has seen superman before will get the hang of it , only this time the super hero is a women , who as the movie shows despite her huge powers is necrotic and emotional bomb waiting to explode, not in one seen does she use her powers to save an innocent soul or help the needy, instead she concentrates on harming her ex-boyfriend who is a defenseless mortal, after leaving her for no other reason than her uncontrolled emotional needs. observe the message given out about women
They can never help any other person even if they have great powers they still need to relay somehow on men ( here emotionally) and
Compare between what super man did to help and rescue the whole world with the risk of being killed while superwomen could easily ignore a call for help she hears with her super ears to have a warm romantic dinner at home with her boyfreind, and the list goes on forever. It is quite ironic if you apply this to real life were women endure gender discrimination starting from inside the family and then the community but still somehow they manage to study, work earn money, bring children into this world raise them , take care of the elderly and at some point or another in life be victims of male abuse, yet still wake up every day with hope in their hearts and the will to continue raising their children in male made rule societies not trying to change them out of the respect they have o their fathers , brothers and husbands.
To all of those women you are super women at least my super heroes if that counts
