    History has taught us that opportunities wouldn’t surface themselves when and where we want them. Experience has shown us that rights are not granted they are taken

    The SPLM has bestowed the Sudanese people one of the most likely chance for Sudan to remain united. Some of us might have wished to have Dr. Grang alive, therefore, we could have marched him to the Presidential Palace with our unconditional votes. Now, unfortunately Dr. Grang is no longer with us, though he left us with a group of his bright students, beloved followers, intelligent politicians among whom is Yasir Said Arman ; a young secular minded leader who is equipped with all the necessary skills and experience and most importantly he has a clear vision to attain “Change” .That is the difference between Arman and the other Sudanese political leaders who lack the vision and the commitment to attain social justice , and this is the very reason why he is qualified to get our support

    Many of us have continued to cry for the unity of Sudan that has seriously been challenged by Islamists and particularly by those who are running the country right now. Our country has been divided along the lines of tribe, religion, ethnic origin, colour, gender and geographical location which put us at the verge of havoc. It is needless to talk about the complete failure of the state, as the present government of Sudan satisfies all the requirements without exception to be a collapsed state or a state in coma. We don’t need to remind ourselves with how the corrupt Sudanese politicians have ballooned their bellies and likewise they have fattened their foreign currencies accounts by the very resources that have been stolen from the poorest of Sudan. Let alone the wars that are waged in our name inside and outside our borders. All of these have contributed to the dramatic fall of the public services including but not limited to education, health and civil service. Besides, the confiscations of freedoms and denial of rights which have dragged our country to the bottom of the list by all international standards and shifted us to the top of the list in all evil matters

    The Sudanese people deserve better chance to live in dignity and respect, and it is high time for all of us to take this matter seriously. Either we vote Arman in or we need another one hundred years or may be more to stand on our feet again which might never happen again, so it is most likely this or never again i.e. we make it or break it

    This time the ball is in the court of the Northerners, the Executive body of the SPLM has unanimously consented to the candidacy of Arman to lead the country in this very critical time. There is range of lessons to be learned from this step. Yes, if we were any other country/society then eyebrows could be raised and questions could be asked as to why Yasir and not Salva or Bagan for instance. But for those who know the dynamics of the politics in Sudan they wouldn’t throw such questions unless they want to divert the public opinion from the real ones
    By doing so i.e. the nomination of Yasir, the SPLM has once again proved to be adamantly holding on to the concept of new Sudan . The logic behind this move though is quite straight forward but intelligent. A majority of well-trained Southerner politicians who led and fought one of the longest wars in Africa to lift themselves from the oppression of northerners and their allies from the southerners, have chosen a Northerner to lead the country at this moment in time. This has only one interpretation; Yasir is a northerner and yet in the driving seat of the New Sudan concept, ideology and realization. For the Northerners who read between the lines the message is: if you believe in the idea of new Sudan and shy away to vote for a Southerner for whatever reason – which are many- then vote for Yasir who is one of you

    For the Northerners political parties, I guess, there is no other better chance to get rid of Albasheer and his gang. All they need to do is to support this candidacy by agreeing to have one and only one candidate to run for the presidential elections and that candidate should be Yasir. For these political parties I would quote “Politics is the art of the Possible” and the SPLM has given you the chance to toy with what is possible

    Otherwise the Northerners Sudanese parties should not come back to tell us about Juba declarations, their opposition to this government or even show us some crocodile tears about the unity of Sudan. The question is can they stand up to the challenge? We really do hope so
