Dear bothers Mohamed, Altayeb and Ismeil
Many regards for a very important subject
First of all we have to understand why we are there and we always have to assess are we still there for that reason or another good reason!!!!! This is important because most of us immigrated when we were young / younger and life has gone by and we started families and suddenly we realised the different goals these families set for us, and the fact that their priorities are very much different than ours.
Now , according to my conclusion of 18 years in the US we have three alternatives
A) Ignore our feeling or simply convince ourselves that everything is going to be OK and bear or let our children bear the consequences of our decision
B) Work very hard to institute a hybrid (Cross-cultural)identity for our children such as Sudanese American our Muslim American and we have do that early and sincerely and be honest with ourselves and most importantly with our children ; we have to understand that this will produce a third outcome neither pure Sudanese nor pure American
C) Leave ..... and raise your children somewhere else and you have to understand that wherever you go your children will suck that place's culture and values unless you again work very hard to instill a cultural hybrid.
Finally, children are smart creatures but they are not super-natural, i.e they CAN NOT become Sudaense or American on their own away from home they have to be taught , couched and above all they have to live that culture and interact with it, and this takes a lot of time, effort, and tons of patience.
I hope we all find the best alternatives and environments for our children and we have to always remember that time really flies and tommorrow is already in the making so we have to hurry up
