The McCain campaign released a Web video and rolled out surrogates Friday to question Obama's connection to the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN, which is the subject of at least 11 investigations. The group's Las Vegas office was raided Tuesday by state authorities investigating claims of voter fraud, and a federal judge on Thursday ordered Ohio's secretary of state to verify voter registrations -- partly out of concern that groups like ACORN were not eradicating fraudulent forms. "Given ACORN's recent efforts to engage in voter fraud and to disrupt our political system, Obama's affiliation with this group raises serious questions about his judgment and ability to lead this nation," the McCain campaign said in a lengthy memo. McCain's Web video highlighted Obama's past legal work for the group and the fact that they endorsed him for president. "Obama's ties to ACORN run long and deep," the narrator in the video says. "Barack Obama. Bad judgment. Blind ambition. Too risky for America." The language mimics the language McCain used in a TV ad released early Friday slamming Obama for his ties to 1960s radical William Ayers. While McCain is juggling several lines of attack against the Democratic nominee in the closing weeks of the presidential race, his campaign argues they all speak to Obama's honesty and character. And in turn, aides argue, they speak to Obama's trustworthiness when it comes to his economic proposals. The economy is, according to most polls, dominating the election, and although both candidates are taking pains to address those concerns most voters view Obama as more capable of handling the crisis. The latest FOX News poll shows Obama leading by 7 points. Obama's campaign consistently argues that McCain is drawing attention to issues like ACORN and Ayers to distract from the economy. "Barack Obama strongly condemns voter registration fraud or any other breach of election law by any party or group. The McCain campaign's allegations about Senator Obama are completely transparent and false," Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor said in a written statement. "The McCain-Palin campaign's false claims are nothing more than another dishonorable, shameful attempt to divert voters' attention from the unprecedented challenges facing their families and our nation." Running mate Joe Biden said Friday in Missouri that McCain is trying to "take the lowest road to the highest office in America," with ads and rhetoric questioning Obama's character and judgment. "Every single false charge, every single baseless accusation is an attempt to stop you from paying attention to what is affecting your daily lives, to what is happening at your kitchen table," Biden said at a campaign rally in Springfield, a traditional Republican stronghold in the swing state of Missouri.
