Dear Awad Thanks for your post. Although Israel does not have a single complete constitutional document, in its fifty- eight years of statehood, the jewish state has developed an operative continuation of its own, embodied in a set of written texts that reflect the politiccal system on which the state is based, its social content, and an expanding constitutional tradition. I agree with you in your description of Israel as a jewish state. Unlike any other country in the world, Israel does not define itself as a state of its residents, or even a state of its citizens, but as a state of all jews in the world. Jews from anywhere in the world can travel, and live in Israel ( Like one million Russian jews arrived in Israel during the last 16 years)declare citizenship automatically, and be granted all the privileges of being jewish that are denied to the Palestinians who have lived in the area for hundreds of years. Itis true that all Israeli citizens, including Palestinians inside Israel( 20% of Israeli population) have the right to vote in elections for members of the Knesset ( Parliament) and for the prime minister. But not all rights are citizenship rights. Other rights are defined as nationality rights, and all are reserved for jews only.If you are a jew, you have exclusive use of land, privileged access to private and public employment, special educational loans, home mortgages, preferences for admission to universities. Many other special privileges are reserved for those who have served in the Israeli army. Itis worthmentioning that military service is compulsory for all jews ( male and female), except for the Ultra- Orthodox who get the same privileges as other jews, but excludes Palestinians, who do not( with exception to the Druez).I hope you will find time to read to Abuna Elias Chacour, a malikite Catholic priest. Abuna Chacour is a leader in the struggle for the civil rights of the Israeli- Palestinians. He is also the author of " Blood Brothers" a book illustrated the struggle of the Palestinans in the Galilee to claim their confiscated lands, and for their civil rights Regards
