This name uses Spanish naming customs; the first or paternal family name is Aldama and the second or maternal family name is Pozo. Yamilé Aldama Pozo (born August 14, 1972) is a Cuban born triple jump, representing Great Britain after formerly representing Cuba and Sudan. Aldama was born in Havana, Cuba and initial represented her country of birth. In 1997, she made her international debut, representing Cuba at the World Indoor Championships After her sixth place finish at these championships, she returned two years later, finishing in seventh place. She made her majory international debut at the 1999 World Championships, where she won a silver medal. The next year at the 2000 Olympics she finished in fourth position, cementing her place as an important international athlete. In 2001, she married Andrew Dodds, a Scottish television producer, and thereafter relocated to the United Kingdom. Following her marriage, she applied for British citizenship, however, as she had not lived in Britain, she had to wait the mandatory three-years, to achieve a passport. She expressed her decision to represent Great Britain at the 2004 Olympics, and was supported by David Moorcroft[1]. Due to this, she did not partake in the 2003 World Championships as this would have hindered her chance to switch allegiance to Great Britain. However, in 2004, the British passport agency refused to push forward her application for a passport. As she moved in Great Britain in November 2001, she would not have been eligible for a passport until November 2004, three months after the Olympics. Due to this, Aldama instead sought a new country to represent, and after offers from Spain, Italy and the Czech Republic, instead switched to Sudan[2]
After acquiring the Sudanese citizenship in 2004, she went to represent Sudan at the 2004 Olympics, where she finished in 5th place. In 2004, she also broke the Sudanese triple jump record, which still stands at 15.28 metres. Her final major international competition to date is the 2005 World Championships, where she once again finished in 4th. She missed the 2007 and 2009 World Championships, as well as the 2008 Olympics. In 2010, nearly ten years after her initial application, she gained British citizenship, and a year later in 2011 transfered allegiance from Sudan to Great Britain
