Tony Blair yesterday refused to rule out reports that the UK will send troops to Sudan - where one million refugees are at risk from famine and disease. The Prime Minister said there was a 'moral responsibility' to deal with the crisis 'by any means we can'.

An investigation into a huge student visa scam which has allowed thousands of immigrants into Britain has uncovered up to 500 bogus colleges. Home Secretary David Blunkett last night revealed his officials had swooped on 672 suspect language schools. Only 178 were genuine, 195 were definately bogus and 299 needed further investigation. The raids back fears that tens of thousands of people have been granted visas or won permission to stay in Britain by enrolling on courses that do not exist.

p.14 Sudan warns against Blair sending troops
Sudan yesterday warned Britain that it risked becoming bogged down in an Iraq-style quagmire if it sent troops to Darfur, where more than a million refugees face the threat of famine diease and attacks by pro-government militia. The government's foreign minister said British soldiers would be seen as an occupying force and faced a backlash from the people of Darfur.
