الشرطة تعتقل عضو مجلس الشيوخ الأمريكي شارلس رانجل أمام السفارة السودانيه

Congressman Charles Rangel Arrested at Sudanese Embassy
    -truth-Breaking Report

    Tuesday 13 July 2004

Congressman Charles B. Rangel (D-NY) was arrested at the Sudanese Embassy, 2210 Massachusetts Avenue NW, Washington D.C., at 12:35 (EST).

Congressman Rangel, along with other members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), are calling for an end to the genocide in Sudan. The CBC is demanding sanctions against the government of Sudan. Many of the protesters are planning to get arrested. In addition to being arrested, radio talk show host and civil rights leader, Joe Madison, will launch a hunger strike. Madison demands an immediate end to the Sudanese government's obstruction of humanitarian aid to victims of the Sudanese genocide. Madison says if trucks filled with food and medicines are not allowed through to the victims before rainy season begins hundreds of thousands of people could die needlessly.

Sudan Campaign organizers pledge to continue demonstrations until the Sudanese government stops the genocide and returns over one million displaced civilians to their homes. Demonstrations are also planned in Boston, New York City, San Antonio, San Diego, and Toronto. On Wednesday, July 14 the Hon. Robert Edgar, former Member of Congress and current President of the National Council of Churches will be arrested in front of the Sudanese Embassy at noon.

The Sudan Campaign calls on the Security Council of the United Nations to adopt Chapter 7 sanctions on Sudan, to suspend the membership of the government for Sudan on the U. N. Human Rights Commission, and to enable slave and other victims of the Sudanese government's declared jihad against Black Africans to return to their homes.

The Sudan Campaign is the direct action effort of a coalition of organizations working on behalf black Africans in Sudan that have suffered violence and slavery at the hands of their government. Partner organizations include The Center for Religious Freedom at Freedom House, the Institute on Religion and Democracy, the American Anti-slavery group, the Wilberforce Project, Christian Solidarity International and others.

Christian Solidarity International (CSI) is a Christian human rights organization for religious liberty helping victims of religious repression, victimized children and victims of disaster. CSI was founded by Rev. Hans St 5/8ckelberger, following silent demonstrations in Switzerland in support of persecuted Christians in 1977. It is based in Zurich, Switzerland but has office in several countries, including the U.S.

    Thanks Kostawi

This is a very significant develoment. Congressman Rangel is one of the most influential, articulate, and outspoken in the US Congress. He is very popualr with the US media, and he is one of the most frequent guests in, almost, all mass media. He is very poular around the US, not just in New York, for he is well known as a sharp, and very smart, spublic debator and speaker. The government of Sudan will find in him one of the most reslient public speakers it ever faced in the past.

I respect this man so much, because he is, indeed, a strong supporter of good causse in the US and around the globe

I don't think he, and all the powerful partners that he joined hand with, will rest until they see the US government and the United Nations do something about the atrocities of Sudan government, and its JANJAWEED alies, in Darfur. This is, definetly, a very significant development that will have wide repercussions

Please take note of the fact that this Mr. Rangel, with his immpecable character, and achievements, has served as US Congressman for 33 years, since 1971! This alone tells you how popular he is, for he gets elected every time he runs for office. I am sure that he will keep winning as long as he runs for Congress, becuase he is not just a man of words. He is also a man of deeds, as his stance in fornt of the Sudan Embassy indicates.
One of the clear repercussions of the momentum building against the Khartoum government -in Washington and around the globe- and its ill-fated policies in Darfur, is the strong statement by President George Bush, which he issued "in person" not in a press relesse. This president cannot ignore any cause in which men like Congressman Rangel, are invloved.
In fact, the Darfur issue may become an US election issue, becuase the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC)>>>
is complaining that Bush has always been ignoring Africa, and African Americans. The CBC's intensive activity this time comes within this context. Many say that the neglect of African issues, including that of Darfur, underpins a racial prejudice, on the part of Bush, his adminstration, and his folk.

If Bush sences that this may affect his electability among African Americans -which is already in jeapordy- he will indeed move to do something -so as to score points among African Americans. This may explain why the Darfur issue could become a US election issue, soon, if the government of Sudan continues to lie about its terrible policies against its own people in Darfur

Rep. Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., will join protesters at the Sudanese Embassy in Washington, D.C., today and expects to be arrested for his actions, reports Christian Solidarity International.
CSI says the demonstrators will call for an end to the "genocide" going on in Sudan at the hands of the Muslim regime in Khartoum.
Rangel and other members of the Congressional Black Caucus have called for an end to the ethnic cleansing of blacks in Sudan by government-backed Arab militiamen and have demanded sanctions be placed on Khartoum.
Also participating in today's protest, says CSI, is radio talk-show host and civil-rights leader Joe Madison, who will launch a hunger strike.
Madison demands an immediate end to the Sudanese government's obstruction of humanitarian aid to victims of the Sudanese genocide. He says if trucks filled with food and medicines are not allowed through to the victims before the rainy season begins, hundreds of thousands of people could die.
In the Darfur region of western Sudan, the conflict between the militiamen and mainly black rebels has led to the deaths of thousands and the displacement of as many as 1 million people.
According to CSI, demonstrations are also planned in Boston, New York City, San Antonio, San Diego and Toronto.
The Sudan Campaign, of which CSI is a part, calls on the Security Council of the United Nations to adopt Chapter 7 sanctions on Sudan, to suspend Sudan's membership on the U.N. Human Rights Commission, and to enable slaves and other victims of the Sudanese government's declared jihad against black Africans to return to their homes.
Since 1983, an estimated 2 million people have died from war and related famine due to the government's targeting of Christians and others in southern Sudan and black Sudanese in the western part of the nation. About 5 million people have become refugees.
The Persecution Project Foundation announced yesterday the release of new photo and video documentary evidence of atrocities against civilians in southern Sudan’s oil region.
