 Sudan Freedom Walk Campaign

As you may have heard, plans are well under way for the 2nd Sudan Freedom Walk, this time a European version, from Brussels to the Hague (a bit over 100 miles, over three days). The walk begins in three weeks, from Friday, December 8th, to Monday, December 11th. If you will happen to be in Europe at that time, please join us! And if you have friends or family already in Europe, by all means, send this on to them and help spread the word.

Simon and I have been discussing the idea of bringing the Sudan Freedom Walk to Europe ever since the first walk in April, and, upon his last visit to Sudan a few weeks ago, we decided to plan the walk for as soon as possible. We even would have done it a week earlier, but that's when the Dutch Santa Claus (Sinterklaas) arrives. We are expecting lots of local participation, especially from the Darfuri communities of Holland and Belgium.
We will be aiming our message at NATO, the EU, and the ICC prosecutor, each in a position to do something about the situation in Sudan. Perhaps most importantly, we will be taking our message to the people of Europe, who seem to genuinely care about the issue, but whose activists have been overshadowed by their counterparts in the U.S. We are surprisingly well organized in the States., but there is very little trans-Atlantic activist cooperation on this issue. The first Freedom Walk was perhaps most successful at bringing activists together, and setting us up to work well with each other in the future. This remains a key goal of the European Walk.
We are looking for as much help as possible in the following areas: 1) finding walkers, 2) finding CELEBRITY walkers or speakers (because it won't matter if no one hears about it), and 3)PUBLICIZING! If you could take a moment to mention the Walk in a discussion on a blog, or send a letter to your local paper or tv station asking them to cover the story, especially if it has local interest (I'm from Philadelphia/DC/Dayton... Simon is from NYC... and Isaac is from Milwaukee), or anything else you can think of to help spread the word, please act.
The situation in Sudan is getting worse by the day. The genocide is spreading. We must act now.
