Another Award for a well-deserving activist and scholar
|
Salih Mahmoud has won another award from a renowned institution. The American Bar Association has awarded Salih the ABA international Human Rights Award. He will receive it in Hawaii in August of this year.
Salih is a staunch and honest defender of human rights, being from Dar Fur has put him in the center of the struggle and the debate. He proved to be the true defender and thinker and the dependable source others can reach out to.
His “hands on” experiences as a Sudanese who struggled and survived the regimes in the Sudan proved to be invaluable. In a conversation with Salih he insisted that this award and any other awards are actually recognition of the work of all advocates of human rights, whether they share the same legal profession or in other walks and disciplines. He insisted that he does not take these awards as rewards for his personal endeavors but as recognition and respect for each and everyone who sincerely entered the struggle for the protection of human rights and social justice. In the words of MLK, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” Salih actually spent more time saluting all activists in their various and different capacities for this recognition.
Congratulate Salih and all justice seekers and stand in silence for those who lost their livess in the struggle
