To the UMES family, our UMES/Sudan Conference Steering Committee wish to inform you of the untimely and most regrettable death of Dr. Muatasim A. Elbeshir, the husband of Mrs. Asma Ali Elzain (member of our UMES/Sudan Conference Steering Committee). May God continue to bless his eternal soul and bring him peace! Dr. Elbeshir is survived by four children and Mrs. Elzain. His wife and each of his four children has a direct connection to UMES: Mrs. Manal Elbeshir is a Graduate student and a Teaching /Assistant in our Department of Mathematics and Computer Science; Mr. Bashir M. Elbeshir earned a B.S. in Computer Science and is a former graduate student at UMES; Mr. Yasir M. Elbeshir is pursuing a Computer Science degree from UMES and an Assistant Coach with our successful intercollegiate Women' Volleyball team; and, Miss Taysir Elbeshir is completing her course work for a M.S. degree in Computer Science and is working as an administrative Assistant to the SEMAA Program. Dr. Muatasim A. Elbeshir was recognized as a brilliant Professor of Political Science and Public Administration at the University of Khartoum for more than thirty (30) years. Dr. Muatasim's professional reputation was legendry in Sudan as a most competent and humanistic professional who cared about and placed his students as his quintessential concern as he endeavored to provide them with the optimum educational experiences. Dr. Malik B. Malik (a UMES family member who is an Assistant Professor in our Mathematics and Computer Science Department) was one of Dr. Muatasim's students and he considers Dr. Muatasim to be one of his most competent mentors, a sincere family friend and a genuine personal friend attests to the validity of this statement. Dr. Malik, the Sudanese Community in the USA and in Sudan and their families are too in deep mourning and feel that Dr. Muatasim's death has created a a bottom less psycholo! gical pit in their life because Dr. Muathasim can never be replaced and that wise counsel and unconditional friendship will definitely be missed. His right side was paralyzed by a stroke and he was confined to bed for fourteen (14) years. During this period of incapacitation, his family exhibited uncommon loyalty and courage in their collective and individual efforts to make his life as happy and as enjoyable as possible; his senior son, Besdhir Elbeshir, withdrew from his studies for an Engineering degree to attend to the family's business during Dr. Elbeshir's prolong period of illness. Mrs. Elzain and her son, Beshir traveled (Friday, February 13, 2003) to Sudan in order to fulfill Dr. Elbeshir' solemn desire to be interned in his home town of Rufaa, Sudan. He will be solely missed by his family and the Sudanese, UMES and Princess Anne communities. May the ubiquitous and magnanimous blessing of Almighty God maintain Dr. Elbeshir's soul and provide the means for him to reside in the splendid and peaceful confines of Heaven. Leon N. Coursey, PhD Professor of Exercise Science University of Maryland Eastern Shore Princess Anne, MD 21853 Telephone: (410) 651-6494 Fax Telephone: (410) 651-6705
