Dear Yousif, May God rest Ahmed Rabsha's soul in peace! Omer Al-Khazin is in Al-Ain, U.A. E, where I taught from 1993 to 2001 at several U.A.E universities. He is a teacher, in an elementary or a middle school in Al-Ain, I believe, doing very little of music, if any. You might want to contact anyone you know in Al-Ain to provide you with his number. If you couldn't for any reason, I will try to get his, or Taj Maki's, number for you. I am sure Taj can locate him. From your condolences note about Ahmed Rabsha, may God rest his soul in peace, I felt that you might want to get in touch with Omer. He, Al-Taj Maki, and I participated in a very successful work that combined music with the history and culture of the Haqeeba music and its predecessor Sufi poetry and music. The main theme of the panel and musical performance dealt with how Sufi traditions affected the lyrics and the music of Haqeeba songs. And how the latter affected the modern northern Sudanese song. Omer Al-Khazin was one of the panelists. As one of the main organizers, I was very impressed with Omer's talents, and his intellectual stature and depth. We visited each other's homes, and some of the rehearsals were done in my house in Al-Aain. The event was held at the U.A.E University auditorium and it was a phenomenal success. Omer, Taj Maki, Ishaq Al-Halanqi, and Dr. Mahdi Osman were very central to this success. But Omer stood out as the most articulate intellectual who combined both music and cultural themes with seamless fluency. I hope you will find the time and the energy to contact him. I am really sad that his talents, yours, and many others' are not "fully" shared with our people in the Sudan in their midst. Ahmed Rabsha's departure reminds us how brutal instability and corrupt governance in a country like Somalia, and the Sudan could result in wasting the talents of great artists. Wardi's sickness and his exile for the past decade is just one of hundreds of reminders of what the JABHA people had done to destroy our artistic talents. Wardi, you, and others would not have been roaming around the world had we had a democratic government. Your comments on Rabsha saddened me, just like his departure did. I vividly remember how talented he was. May Allah help us all return to our beloved country, THE SUDAN, soon, and may He rid us of the fanatic gang that made the likes of you wander around the globe seeking a home, after your own has been stolen!!! My deep condolences to you on the departure of Ahmed Rabsha, your friend, former colleague, and the most talented Somali vocalist we have known! Haydar
