جنيف.. مساعد الطيار خطف الطائرة الإثيوبية

أعلنت شرطة مطار جنيف الدولي أن الخاطف هو مساعد قائد الطائرة الإثيوبية وأنه سلم نفسه للسلطات وطلب اللجوء السياسي إلى سويسرا.
وقال الرئيس التنفيذي لمطار جنيف روبرت ديلون للصحفيين الاثنين إن مساعد الطيار، إثيوبي مولود عام 1983، حبس نفسه في قمرة القيادة بعد سيطرته على الطائرة، في أعقاب ذهاب الطيار إلى الحمام.
وأضافت الشرطة السويسرية أن أياً من ركاب الطائرة أو أفراد طاقمها لم يكونوا معرضين للخطر نظراً لأن الخاطف لم يكن مسلحاً.
وأوضحت أن الخاطف، بعيد هبوط الطائرة وهي من طراز بوينغ 767، نزل من شباك قمرة قيادة الطائرة مستخدماً حبلاً.
وكانت سلطات مطار جنيف أعلنت الاثنين القبض على مختطف الطائرة الإثيوبية، مشيرة إلى أن "الوضع تحت السيطرة"، وذلك بعد وقت قصير على هبوط الطائرة المختطفة في المطار.
وقالت سلطات المطار في رسالة نصية أرسلت إلى وسائل الإعلام: "تم اعتقال الخاطف.. الوضع تحت السيطرة.. لا يوجد مصابين".
وأفاد شهود عيان أن الشرطة أخلت الطائرة من الركاب الذين شوهدوا وهم يترجلون منها وأيديهم فوق رؤوسهم.
وأضافت الرسالة أن المطار كان قد أغلق مؤقتاً خلال عملية هبوط الطائرة في المطار في الساعة السادسة صباحاً بحسب التوقيت المحلي.
وكانت الطائرة الإثيوبية متجهة من أديس أبابا إلى العاصمة الإيطالية روما، في الرحلة رقم "إي تي - 702"، عندما تعرضت للاختطاف فوق الأجواء السودانية.
وقال المتحدث باسم مطار جنيف برتراند ستامبفلي إن طائرة مخطوفة هبطت بالمطار في وقت مبكر اليوم (الاثنين) دون أن يحدد هوية الطائرة.
غير أن شركة الخطوط الجوية الإثيوبية أعلنت، الاثنين، أن إحدى طائراتها اختطفت وأجبرت على التوجه إلى مطار جنيف في سويسرا.
وقالت الشركة في بيان لاحق إن الطائرة حطت في مطار جنيف الدولي وأن كل المسافرين على متن الطائرة وأفراد الطاقم بخير.

An Ethiopian Airlines co-pilot hijacked a plane bound for Rome on Monday and flew it to Switzerland, where he wanted to seek asylum, officials said.

Geneva Airport chief executive Robert Deillon told reporters that the co-pilot took control of Flight ET702 when the pilot ventured outside the cockpit.
"The pilot went to the toilet and he [the co-pilot] locked himself in the cockpit," Deillon said.
The man "wanted asylum in Switzerland," he said. "That's the motivation of the hijacking."

The flight departed Addis Ababa, Ethiopia's capital city, at 12:30 a.m. Monday local time. The flight was supposed to last for about six hours. The plane circled repeatedly over Switzerland before landing.
The co-pilot himself alerted authorities to the plane's hijacking, officials added — though passengers on the plane were unaware it had been hijacked. After landing in Geneva, the co-pilot exited the cockpit using a rope and turned himself in to authorities.
Geneva prosecutor Olivier Jornot said Swiss federal authorities were investigating the hijacking and would press charges that could carry a prison sentence of up to 20 years.
Geneva airport was initially closed to other flights, but operations resumed around two hours after the hijacked plane landed. "We hope everything will return to normal in the afternoon," Deillon said.
According to a press release issued by Ethiopian Airlines, all passengers and crew are safe.
"Ethiopian Airlines is making immediate arrangements to fly its esteemed customers on-board the flight to their intended destinations," the statement reads.

Swiss authorities have arrested the co-pilot of an Ethiopian Airlines flight that was forced to land at Geneva's international airport, airport officials told the Reuters news agency.
Geneva airport chief executive Robert Deillon told reporters on Monday that an Ethiopian man took control of the plane when the pilot ventured outside the cockpit.

Scrambled jets
The hijacking began over Italy and two Italian fighter jets were scrambled to accompany the plane, Deillon said.
The co-pilot himself alerted authorities to the plane's hijacking, officials added - though passengers on the plane were unaware it had been hijacked.
After landing in Geneva, the co-pilot exited the cockpit using a rope and turned himself in to authorities.
Police escorted passengers one by one, their hands over their #########, from the taxied plane to waiting vehicles.
Passengers safe
Officials said there was no risk to passengers or crew at any point.
Ethiopian Airlines flight 702 bound for Rome from Addis Ababa was reportedly denied permission to land and circled Geneva for several minutes before it was "forced to proceed" to the airport, which had been temporarily closed by authorities.
An Ethiopian government spokesman, Redwan Hussein, told Reuters that the flight had made a scheduled stop in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, where it was originally thought the hijacker or hijackers may have boarded the flight.
"We don't know where they are from or how many they are but it looks like the hijacker or hijackers boarded the flight in Khartoum," Redwan added shortly before police announced they had detained the assailant.
Reports on social media said Ethiopian Airlines flight was flying over Sudan when it issued a distress signal, Squawk 7500, which is code indicating a hijacking.
