Ahmed --
One year ago today, Malala was shot while travelling on a school bus in Pakistan. It was an attempt to silence her but twelve months on she has inspired a global movement of people and her voice is stronger than ever.
This Friday we will find out if Malala is awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her work.
I started the petition last year calling for Malala to win the prize after reading about her courage in speaking out for the rights of girls everywhere for an education. Her story touched me personally because when I was 16 I was taken out of school and sent to Pakistan for marriage. I wish someone had spoken out for me.
I later graduated aged 30 with a 1st class honours degree in Social Work. They can take you away from education but can't take education from you!
This year the right for girls to have an education has been in the news more than ever before and Malala took her message to the UN on her sixteenth birthday. I've been lucky to spend time with Malala and her family. Her determination to see every girl in school and the passion with which she speaks is remarkable, for anyone, let alone a sixteen year old.
Our petition went global, with half a million people signing from around the world. It has succeeded in getting Malala nominated for the prize. In the UK many MPs showed their support for Malala and we received a letter from the Foreign Office that said "Malala’s activism is inspirational and her bravery does indeed deserve international recognition."
Malala is now on the shortlist for the award.
The petition is still open for you to share with your friends and family to show the incredible global support Malala has received for her work:

Ahmed -
This morning the Nobel Committee announced that the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) has won the Nobel Peace Prize.
While we were cheering for Malala to win, the prize has gone to an important organisation and I am still so proud of what we achieved through our petition to get Malala nominated.
A year ago many of us were touched by the story of a young Malala who was shot on her way to school. We wanted to do something to help and show our support. The idea of the petition to have her nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize was born.
I could never have imagined what happened next. You signed the petition, and thousands of other people like you, signed. Suddenly this simple idea went global. Petitions started around the world from Brazil, Singapore, Kenya, US, India, Italy, Germany, France, even Pakistan.
Malala's courage to stand up for girls' right to education inspired a global movement of people to stand alongside her.
Malala shows that we all have a voice, that we can choose to use to stand-up for things we care about. Through our petition we helped carry Malala's story around the world.
Malala did not win the award but her work to fight for girls' education continues. On her sixteenth birthday Malala started her own petition to carry her message to the UN. You can still sign up to support her campaign here:
