Al Bashir, Al-Mahdi Agree on Issues of Governance, Constitution, and Peace
Khartoum - President of the Republic and head of the National Congress Party (NCP), and Al-Imam Al-Sadiq Al-Mahdi, head of National Umma Party (NUP), agreed on the national nature of the issues of governance, permanent constitution, and peace. The two politicians agreed on continuing dialogue regarding a number of disputed issues. Following talks which went on for one hour and a half between the two parties on Tuesday in Al-Mahdi's house, President Al Bashir said the spirits of intimacy and accepting the other are exclusive to Sudan and described the meeting as fruitful and serious and one in which issues of concern to the homeland and the citizenry were discussed. On his part, Al-Sadig Al-Mahdi said the President and himself agreed that the issues of governance, the permanent constitution, and peace are national issues from which none must be excluded, saying the meetings between the two parties will continue to reach agreements on the disputed issues. Al-Mahdi went on to say that they discussed the situation in Egypt and that he and the President stressed that Sudan must play a stronger role to preserve national unity in Egypt and Egyptian lives in a way that leads to better relations between the peoples of the two countries. "The meeting with the President was one of interest to the public opinion," said Al-Mahdi and proceeded to describe it as fraternal considering the circumstances the country is undergoing. Such a fraternal meeting, stated Al-Mahdi, could only happen in Sudan due to the spirit of tolerance common among the Sudanese. Minister of investment Dr. Mustafa Osman Ismail, NCP's leading office member and the official in charge of dialogue with NUP, said the meetings of the President with different political forces will continue.
