Re: اليوم 19 ديسمبر هو اليوم الحقيقى للاستقلال السودان من داخل البرلمان فلنحى هذه الذكرى العظي (Re: إسماعيل وراق)

Dear All Some may find it appropriate to celebrate this day, December 19, 1955, but no one in the South would remeber this day for anything, but a tragic day. It was the day the Northern politicians exercised the historic lie that "federalism would be given due consideration" during the first contstitutional making of the independent Sudan. However, that promise was immediately discarded after January 1, 1956. It apparently turned out that the promise was made to secure the votes of the Southern members of parliament, otherwise the motion declaring independece inside parliament would have failed, as it required a unanimity of parliamnet. The motion itself was a violation of the Anglo-Egyptian Agreement of 1953, in which section 9 of that Agreement provided that the independece or unity with Egypt would be decided in a public referendum, not by a vote inside parliament. Because of the change in the position of the National Unionist Party, led by Ismail al-Azhari, from calling for unity with Egypt to independence for the Sudan, the violation of the said Agrement was necessary, and therefore the requirement of unanimous vote inside parliament, for the vote to legally stand on its feet. Since that vote, the Sudan has been paying the price and the seeds of disunity were meticously planted, of which I believe the Sudan will never recover from .
