SEMINOLE – A group of 11 government leaders from Sudan toured the Seminole campus of St. Petersburg College Sept. 22 to learn more about the school’s Institute for Strategic Policy Solutions and its degree program in public policy and administration.
The visit was part of a three-day tour of the Tampa Bay area coordinated by the U.S. Department of State and the International Council of the Tampa Bay Region as part of the State Department’s International Visitor Leadership Program.
The SPC tour stop, which was organized in less than 24 hours, gave SPC an opportunity to pitch its Study Abroad Program, which is an international travel exchange program, and its leadership education options.
The group spent about 90 minutes at SPC where they were given a presentation by State Sen. Dennis Jones, David Klement, executive director of the Institute; and Rod Davis, director of the school’s Center for International Programs. Also included was a video presentation by Congressman Bill Young and a tour of Young’s office on the Seminole campus.
The group’s tour of the Tampa Bay area included visits with U.S. Magistrate Judge Elizabeth Jenkins, representatives from the U.S. Marshal’s office, a stop at the Clearwater Police Department, a visit to the St. Petersburg Times where they met national editor Bill Duryea, a meeting with student government leaders at USF-St. Petersburg, various cultural activities in the area and a meeting with Gary Springer, the president of the ICTBR who is also a specialist in global business, trade and public policy issues.
According to its website, the ICTBR is the official partner of the State Department for professional programs and cultural activities for global emerging leaders in Florida’s seven-county Tampa Bay Region.
Since its founding, the International Council has hosted in excess of 3,000 international visitors from more than 150 countries.
Since 1940, more than 190,000 visitors have been brought to the U.S. under the program. More than 200 current and former ######### of state and about 1,500 cabinet-level ministers have seen first-hand how life and work takes place in the United States.
Among them are President Nicolas Sarkozy of France, President Dilma Rousseff of Brazil, Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai, former Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and former Indian prime minister Indira Ghandi.

عسي أن ينهوا القطيعة والدرك السحيق
التي تعبشه بلادهم مع العالم
لكن من يطبق سياستهم وهنالك قطيعة
وهوة شاسعة بين تواصل الاجيال ومجزرة
بالخدمة المدنبة مازالت تداعياتها
تلقي بظلالها علي تخبط العديد من القرارات.

الشباب ديل من الأحزاب السودانية أتوا بدعوة من وزارة الخارجية الأمريكية ضمن برنامج زيارات القادة والذي يتيح للزائر التعرف عن قرب على الحياة العامة في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية. ولقد إلتقيت بعدداً منهم.. ولكن لظروف الترحال لم ألتقي بالأخرين ومنهم ممثل المؤتمر اللاوطني والذي عرفت أنه زهل بعد إتطلاعه على حقيقة الأحوال المعيشية في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية والتي أمضى فيها شهراً تنقل فيه في معية بقية الشباب في عدداً من الولايات الأمريكية.
وقال لي بعضهم أنه رجع مبهوراً مما قدم له وشاهده على أرض الواقع والذي خالف ما قدمه له قادته من أكاذيب ثبت له أنها مجرد أقوال عارية من الصحة وأنه سيعمل على تصحيح هذة المفاهيم الخاطئة.
نتمنى أن يستمر هذا البرنامج والذي نرجو أن يأتي عبره كل من يريد أن يتعرف على أمريكا.
