A Sudanese refugee family prepares porridge near the frontier after crossing into Chad to flee attacks by militiamen, January 27, 2004. Tens of thousands of Sudanese refugees have poured across the border into Chad since December, fleeing a series of attacks by horse-riding "Janjaweed" militiamen and bombardment by government planes. The humanitarian crisis has unfolded largely unnoticed by the outside world and few aid agencies have set up operations to help.
