Who: The indigenous and marginalized people of Sudan What: Sudan’s Regime Must Go: A rally for regime change in Sudan Where: Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, East 47th Street between 1st and 2nd Avenues, New York, New York When: Friday, September 16, 2011 from 12:00 to 5:00 PM
On Friday, September 16, 2011 from 12:00 to 5:00 PM, the Sudanese Marginalized movements and organizations representing the marginalized areas of The Nuba Mountains, Darfur, Blue Nile, Abyei, Beja, and Nubia, in addition to activists from The Republic of South Sudan, will present a rally and protest in front of The United Nations building in New York City to bring attention to atrocities committed by the criminal Sudanese regime against its own citizens. The Sudanese government of President Al-Bashir has carried out Genocide and crimes against humanity in the last two decades in the regions of Darfur, the Nuba Mountains, South Sudan, Eastern Sudan, and The Blue Nile. The Sudan government is currently executing a campaign of ethnic cleansing in The Nuba Mountain region of South Kordofan. They have forced the population of Abyei out of the region, with scores killed and injured, while the Genocide of the people of Darfur continues with attacks on villages daily and day and night aerial bombings. They have committed ethnic cleansing against the people of Beja, and have denied humanitarian aid workers access to Eastern Sudan. The population of Nubia is threatened by a huge dam on the river Nile, and the regime plans to settle millions Egyptian farmers on their land. The Blue Nile region has not been spared, with a recent attack by the Sudanese government on the offices of the Blue Nile state governor, who is also the chairman of The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North. The oppression of political opponents, the media, and the women of Sudan is increasing across the country. Refugee camps continue to be attacked by the Sudanese military and the Janjaweed militia. We, the marginalized people of Sudan in the United States, Canada, and throughout the diaspora, on behalf of the millions of our oppressed people inside Sudan who comprise more than 85% of the population, call upon the international community to support the overthrow of the oppressive and criminal regime of President Al-Bashir, paving the way for a democratic, peaceful transformation and bringing justice, equality, and the rule of law, as well as fully recognizing and respecting the ethnic, religious, and cultural diversity of Sudan. We encourage all the marginalized people of Sudan, Sudanese activists, and friends of Sudan to join us from 12:00 to 5:00 PM on Friday, September 16 at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza on East 47th Street in New York City to rally in support of regime change in Sudan. This rally will coincide with the UN General Assembly meeting when all ######### of state from around the world will be in attendance. Please join us for inspirational music and speeches.
