AL AIN — Forty-year-old Sudanese national Tariq Hasan Ahmed and his Syrian wife Malakah Nawwaf Ezaddin (Um Mohannad) were both born blind and now see life through their son, seven-year-old Mohannad's eyes.
Speaking to Khaleej Times, Um Mohannad said that blindness runs in her family and there are three others, two sisters and a brother who are also blind. Her husband Tariq was completing his master's degree in History when she met him in Damascus University. She was a university student at the faculty of Arts, Arabic language department.
"We fell in love and got married. I have grown accustomed to doing the household chores myself since I had been a student in the Blind School. I cook myself and deal with all the house needs. I can recognise different kinds of vegetables and fruits by touch," said Um Mohannad.
She added that their son, Mohannad, also helps them to overcome their blindness. He has a good sense of responsibility and behaves like a mature person. He also look
