Moving Note on an Historic (even if flawed) Moment in Sudan's Time
From Iduol Beny (my sister), April 9, 2010.
Dear Friends and Family,
Tomorrow, in the early morning of Saturday, April 10, 2010, I will traveling by road from Juba to Mapourdit, South Sudan, to participate in the first elections in the whole of Sudan in over two decades.
I will gather up my uncles Madol, Machar and Cieng Beny -my late father's surviving brothers- and take them with me to the polling booth to vote. This has been a long time coming, and although the Sudan elections will never be free and fair, I would never give up this historic chance to vote.
My uncles and I will vote in the name of Dad, Dr. John Garang, all of those we lost in the liberation struggle and all of my friends and loved ones who cannot be here to vote themselves in support of the South.
Wherever you are in the world, please pray for peace and freedom for us.
Love,
Iduol
