LAINYA, 16 November 2009 (Gurtong) – During the Sunday evening incident, five people died while six others were injured.
The Minister was on the 7-day holiday that had been declared for GoSS Ministers to mobilise people to register for the forthcoming general elections in their constituencies.
Dr Kwaje was shot on his upper right arm although the bullet did not break any bone.

A man identified as Jacob Lumori, who was seated next to the Minister was shot on the leg near the joints while others received stomach, hand and leg wounds.
Among the dead were the driver who was leading the convoy and a policeman.
The attack was caused by a scuffle that arose following a disagreement over the ongoing voter registration in Wonduruba Payam headquarters.
It all started when the Minister inquired about the progress from the SPLM Payam Secretary.
In his response, the SPLM official said he had not received an official letter authorising the commencement of the exercise.
This infuriated the Minister and his team who then asked the official visit Mankaro Boma to see how badly the people wanted to register.
He, however, refused to heed their call, an act that made the police bundle him into the car and drove him forcefully towards Mankaro Boma.
This enraged the locals who blocked all roads leading to the Boma before they started shooting at the Minister’s convoy.
Reports indicate that the security men who were in the convoy were unarmed and those who had guns did not have enough ammunition.
The area is now under heavy SPLA guard and so far 23 area residents have been arrested for interrogation.
Meanwhile the head of mission of the Southern Sudan Government in Nairobi John Duku has told Gurtong that the Minister is in stable condition at the Nairobi Hospital where he was flown for treatment.
“The Minister is responding well to treatment and is now resting. It is hoped that he will be fine “, said Duku on phone this afternoon.
