اوكامبو: القرار سيصدر خلال أيام ....

In a Standing-only Auditorium that hold more than 300 @ Yale University,
ICC General prosecutor gave the keynote speaker speech for a whole-day Conference on:
The Pursuit Of International Criminal Justice: The Case of Darfur

With a strong presence of Darfur activists, especially from Darfur Rehabilitation Project, Mr. Ocampo made his argument against Albashir very eloquently.

The Regime's Ambassador in Washington was there along with his Security Counselor.
The Counselor asked one question to Ocampo: What evidence do you have that Sudanese court system won't be able to bring justice to the victims?
Ocampo: I have very solid evidence.
However, before he answered him, Ocampo asked him to identify himself, and the Counselor had to reveal his connection to the Embassy...

The Ambassador made an indirect threat to the International community stating that had the Arrest Warrant issued, the CPA will face a real challenge, and violence will be unavoidable...!

The conference was designed to include three Round Table sessions with a chance to the audience to ask questions.
    1) What Would peace look like in Darfur
    2) The Role of Justice
    3) The Role of Diplomacy in bargaining progress.

I took some notes during the Conference and I found these quotes of interest:

    Ocampo:
This was the first case ever that the prosecutor built his case without visiting the crime scene
There will be no impunity for any one committed crimes. My office is investigating three rebel leaders in the attack against peacekeepers, which resulted in 12 fatalities and 17 wounded.
Ahmed Haroun was the translator between Darfurian victims and Kofi Annan!

    Jon Pendergast (Enough Project)
The National Congress Party is not like the Taliban. They do not want to go down with the ship. They will protect their party and their own interest at the end of the day...
The peace movement has to block the road against the rebel groups that does not accept peace. We need to start with a simple peace agreement that 99% of the people of Darfur accept and then make the rebels come to the negotiation table.

Hussein Hassouna, Arab League Ambassador to the UN:
His argument was very weak in general. I asked, after the end of his panel, him about the report of the Arab league team of investigation in Darfur in 2004. He said it was not available for public and was given to the state representatives. However, he admitted that he did not read it when I asked about its main findings!

Bruno Stagno, Foreign Minister of Costa Rica:
We do not want to see the politicization of the peace process

    Dr. Suleiman Baldo:
The GOS paid $700 millions as compensation for 55,000 citizens who lost their homes due to dams in North Sudan; while it paid only $30 millions for 3,000,000 citizens in Darfur who lost their homes!

Christian Wenaweser, representative of Liechtenstein to the UN:
We have to send very clear message to Khartoum that the UN will not permit any violence against UNAMID or foreigners had the Arrest Warrant issued.

It was great conference and a great opportunity to meet with those playing key roles in capturing Albashir...
