02/10/08 – During a statement to the local press late afternoon in Southern Sudan H.E Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin the Minister of Regional Cooperation and the Acting-Minister for SPLA Affairs clarified the situation concerning a Cargo shipment hijacked by pirates (discovered carrying battle tanks and arms) "...has nothing to do with Southern Sudan, and that the shipment was not heading for, or for that matter is for Southern Sudan..." as alleged by some media.
The Minister also mentioned that if the shipment was allegedly belonging to Southern Sudan then the Government of Southern Sudan would not hide but come forward and claim it, because they are and would be legally entitled do so.
*The shipment was clarified it belonged to Kenya as quoted in the Sunday Nation “…For as well as the 33 T-72 tanks, the Faina was carrying huge quantities of ammunition and grenade launchers for the Kenyan forces….”
