 Rift Valley Fever....HIV/Aids......A Testament to the Decrepid Public Health System in Sudan

Sudan has one of the highest infant, child and maternal mortality rates in the world. It is truly sad because at least
60%
of these are preventable. It is no surprise that diseases such as Rift Valley Fever and Aids have already impacted a sizeable portion of the underserved areas. Underserved not only in the number of health care facilities, but also in the lack of public health services. People in Sudan need awareness. Simple measure such as handwashing, proper food handling, pesticide control, adequate waste disposal,safe sex, can and will be of great value in preventing the problem and containing it should it occur. Prevention is the most cost effective approach to prevent a full blown crisis. In a country like Sudan, where there is no standard protocol in the approach of a physician to a problem, where there are no standard guidelines to follow, Spend money to prevent the condition rather than create mass medical schools that produce many ill equipped physicians
For those who still remain in Sudan, physicians and nutrionists and public health officials , use your skills to start this campaign.
Start by encouraging mothers to breast feed, not only will it prevent disease, it will prevent the contamination that is likely to occur with bottlefeeding.
Tell Women to examine their breast every month. Mammograms are not readily available, but use your hads to detect any change. One of every 8 women is at risk for breast cancer
Handwashing, especially doctors who examine patients every 30 minuted For those in the media, please use your unique position to deliver public heslth messges to the viewers
There is a place for everyone to participate in this campaign,,,,do not be sidetracked by chatterboxes in your midst Stand taller than your peers and began an initiative that will be felt in the coming generations .
Seat belts....does anyone use seatbelts in Sudan...that alone can save lives...infant seats...nonexistant in Sudan....those who work at Dal perhaps you can convinvce the higher ups to start a campaign of importing infant car seats and teach people how to use them...one of the commenest causes of child mortality are accidents
The private sector is our only hope ....in the US companies like Ford Motor Company,GE, Bill Gates foundation, have been credited with similiar actions

الخرطوم (رويترز) - قالت منظمة الصحة العالمية يوم الاربعاء ان حمى الوادي المتصدع أودت بحياة 96 شخصا في السودان وان انتشارها مستمر منذ وردت أنباء ظهور المرض قبل أسبوع.
وبدأت المنظمة التابعة للأمم المتحدة عقد اجتماعات يومية لمراقبة انتشار المرض الذي يمكن أن يقتل نحو نصف من يصابون به ولم يُطَور لقاح بشري فعال مضاد له حتى الآن ويمكن أن يلحق أضرارا جسيمة بالثروة الحيوانية.
وذكرت متحدثة باسم المنظمة أن أحدث الأرقام تظهر وجود 329 حالة إصابة بشرية معروفة في السودان ارتفاعا من 228 حالة قبل ستة أيام وأن معدل الوفيات يقل قليلا عن 30 في المئة.
ويمكن أن تقتل الحمى زهاء 50 في المئة من الأشخاص الذين تصيبهم في أشد صورها النزفية التي تقول المنظمة انها ظهرت في السودان.
ويعد رُعاة الماشية وغيرهم من الأشخاص الذين يخالطون الحيوانات الأكثر عُرضة للإصابة بالمرض الذي ينتقل من خلال الاتصال بدم ملوث أو لدغ البعوض الناقل للمرض.
وذكرت منظمة الأغذية والزراعة التابعة للأمم المتحدة أنها أرسلت خبيرا في شؤون صحة الحيوان لمساعدة الحكومة في احتواء أي انتشار للمرض بين الماشية وقالت ان السودان أبلغ المنظمة الدولية لصحة الحيوان ومقرها باريس بالفعل عن بعض الاصابات بين الحيوانات.
لكن الخرطوم نفت الإبلاغ عن أي حالات يوم الاربعاء وقالت وزارة الثروة الحيوانية انه لا توجد إصابات مؤكدة في قطعان الماشية رغم انتشار المرض بين البشر.
كما ذكرت صحيفة الرأي العام أن دولا تربطها علاقات تجارية وثيقة بالسودان مثل السعودية والإمارات فرضت بالفعل حظرا مؤقتا للواردات من الماشية السودانية ونقل الماشية السودانية عبر حدودها.
وقالت وسائل إعلام ان مصر أرسلت أيضا فرقا من الأطباء البيطريين الى حدودها الجنوبية مع السودان لمراقبة الوضع.
وقالت منظمة الأغذية والزراعة انها تراقب أيضا انتشار الجراد الصحراوي في شمال السودان. وحذرت من أنه اذا لم يتم استخدام أساليب مناسبة لرش المبيدات فقد تشكل الحشرات أسرابا تدمر المحاصيل في الدول المطلة على البحر الاحمر بل وقد تنتشر غربا الى مناطق مثل اقليم دارفور السوداني خلال العام المقبل.

Thank you for reminding me....this also brings to mind a lecture with the late Profressor Awad Al Goon...he said many years ago at Wad Medani they were trying to educate people about different birth control options...and so they provided them with condom samples after having explained in detail how and why they should be used...he said a few days later he came back and all the kids were using the condoms as water bottles...which only goes to show you how durable they actually are...the point of the matter is people at least lived in an environment that was open to new things...granted they just could not deal with :a barrier method
Unfortunately, the mileau created by this fanatic narrow minded minority is not even willing to discuss the reality of premarital and extra marital unprotected sex and the ramifications we are already seeing......backstreet abortions....unethical physicians.....a surge in AIDS.....gonorhea..and syphylus comebacks.... now even more resistant to meds....
God save us from our own ignorance

هالة و بكرى سلام,
قبل خمسة دقائق فى تلفزيون السودان نفى عدد من المسؤليين وجود أى مرض فى الحيوانات بالإقليم الأوسط والدليل إنهم سألو بعض الرعاء عن وجود أمراض فى قطعانهم ونفى الرعاء ذلك....هل تصدقو هذة الفوضى !! قبل الإنفاذ كانت مراكز البحوث البيطرية السودانية تسيطر على الوبائيات وتصنع الأمصال التى تصدر إلى الدول الأفريقية....والآن بفضل "المشروع الحضارى" و " ثورة التعليم" لايستطيع أحد معرفةإذا كان هناك وباء حمى الوادى المتصدع فى الحيوانت أم لا! يموت منه الناس بإعتراف المنظمات و لكنه لايوجد فى الحيوان لا حتى لاتبور تجارة اللحوم!! للأسف السودان به نظام لا يمكن وصفه سوى بالمجرم.
