Thank you Ali
Quote: Dear Ali I have some feedback on the 5th edition, I will be back in details in Arabic in the weekend. for example although I do agree with the pricipals of the article on(the role of economic freedom in Democracy) but I don't agree with the writer when he used data from Frazer institue in Canada. this institute is sometimes biased in supporting idealogical ideas of the extreme right. for example it has been trying so hard to undermine the health care in Canada and take advantage of problems to promote private health care like America and therefore most of their agenda are not popular here. Please be aware and critical if you encounter any research data from Frazer Institute of Canada. it is a tank of the political right

Unfortunately for most genuine students of Economics, even in the US, the Cato Institute too is a right-wing conservative think tank
Borrowing its socioeconomic architecture and dressing it up to indicate that the Sudanese Liberal Party is something other than a right wing party will prove problematical, particularly once the presentations move beyond the basic and simple ideological presentations
The Torch of Freedom مصباح الحرية which is found at Sudanile as well as the SLP website is replete with very orthodox and often right-wing economic articles/propaganda

Sultan, The Liberal Party has nothing to do with the Frazer Institute. They brought an article about the economic freedom and democracy which I agree with in principals. I am sure they don’t know Frazer institute, what I am saying is, people should be critical when they deal with the data from that institute. The article was a good article and you may not have to agree with it 100% but the theme of the article is good. When I brought in my comments, I was trying to tell everybody to be aware when they deal with the outcome of their researches. I was not trying to undermine the article or the efforts behind it, it was rather an occasion to make people aware of it. I think if you want to judge the Party on the issue, it is wise to highlight their economic and social vision which is well presented in this 5th edition.

I agree - and for the record I made no such association. I commented on the right-wing issue as it related to both the Frazer and Cato Institutes (the author Ian Vasquez is affiliated with the latter). I also noted that the Cato Institute is quoted on their website as well as on Sudanile
As for being critical that should be the norm when dealing with all things intellectual or policy related. The two institutes speak for certain economic interests and toe a very conservative right-wing brand of economics
As for the SLP’s economic vision – I am inclined, thus far, to see it as part of the right rather than any progressive or leftist approach. There are as you know those who are genuinely centrists and eclectic in their economics, even within the domain of standard economics, but I have not seen this vision fully developed yet to live up to the way it is being branded – I say this realizing that these presentations are still probably a work in progress
Thanks
