Ezekiel Gatkuoth meets US Presidential Envoy to the Sudan Friday, 12 October 2007 [Washington DC] – Larco Lomayat
After series of meetings with the US senior officials at the White house, Mr. Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth, Head of GOSS Mission to the United States of America, met today, Friday, October 12, 2007 with Mr. Andrew Natsios, US Presidential Envoy to the Sudan at the State Department.
The meeting was to brief Mr. Natsios about the current National Crisis in the Sudan. Mr. Gatkuoth reassured Natsios that SPLM’s decision was not a resignation from the Government of National Unity (GONU), it is a suspension of SPLM’s participation in GONU due to the National Congress Party’s serious violations of the Comprehensive Peace Agreements by: A. Not implementing the Abyei Protocol, B. Failing to withdraw Sudan Armed forces form the Oil Southern States, C. The Lack of transparency in the Oil Sector, NCP’s support of Active Militias in the South, and D. President Bashir’s rejection of the Proposal of First Vice President, President of the Government of Southern Sudan and SPLM Chairman Salva Kiir Mayardit to Reshuffle SPLM Ministers in the Government of National Unity.
The Head of Missions stated that all SPLM - Ministers, State Ministers and Presidential advisors in GONU will resume their duties only after the contentious issues are resolved.
Mr. Gatkuoth was accompanied by Mr. Deng Deng Nhial, Trade and Investment Officer, Mr. Larco Lomayat, Information Officer and Ms. Apuk Ayuel, Special Assistant to the Head of Mission at the GOSS Mission to the United States of America.
