As the Sudanese people are approaching their second Civil Disobedience planned to take place on 19th December 2016 after the successful one on 27th November following the lifting of subsidies from medicines and other necessary commodities, the Liberal Party of Sudan has expressed its concern over The president Al-Bashir’s threat on a public rally to the activists, civil societies and the Sudanese people who are calling for and supporting the civil disobedience. The head of the regime referred to the government’s intention to use deadly force against the supporters of the civil disobedience during his recent visit to Kassala town last Monday, which recalls the events of September 2011 when the security forces of the regime had deliberately killed more than 200 protestors in Khartoum. The tyranny regime of Omer Ahmed Al-Bashir is responsible for killing 270,000 civilians in Darfur and more than two millions in South Sudan during the past 27 years. The head of the regime is indicted by the International Criminal Court for committing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Darfur. These facts make us in the Liberal Party of Sudan to call on the International Community and the Security Council to take the president’s threatening rhetoric seriously and take practical measures to protect the Sudanese people and their legitimate rights to freedom of expression and speech. The party also call on the neighbouring countries, the Gulf Cooperation Countries (GCC), the African Union (AU) and all the regional bodies who are supporting the Sudanese regime politically and financially to take measures to stop the upcoming plan to massacre the Sudanese people by the president and its security forces. The Liberal Party of Sudan also seizes this opportunity to call for an immediate and unconditional release of hundreds of political detainees who were arrested by the security forces since November 2016. The LPS condemns the crackdown on newspapers and political parties in order to stop the ongoing nationwide civil disobedience.
