30 June 2016- Khartoum: H.E. President Omar Al Bashir received the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian to Sudan, Ms. Marta Ruedas at the Presidential Guest House. The duration of the meeting which took place on 22 June 2016 was 30 minutes during which the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator officially submitted her credentials to H.E. the President of the Republic. H.E. President Omar Al Bashir stated that Sudan has the full intention to cooperate with the United Nations on many fronts across the full range of the UN’s responsibility. Further discussions were focused on current challenges facing the UN in Sudan, while also touching on a number of future opportunities on both the development and humanitarian fronts. H.E. the President also emphasized to the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator that further efforts are needed to ensure that joint work between the UN and the government of Sudan takes place in order to realize those opportunities particularly in reconstruction and development.
Ms. Ruedas was appointed as the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative for Sudan on 16 August 2015. Ms. Ruedas has more than 25 years of experience with the UN both at headquarters and field level, spanning four continents.
